Gunblast just did an article, w/pics, on the new Marlin XL7 boltgun:

I wish I had not read that.
Now I want one.
I hope it catches on before remmy shuts it down.
I agree that the rifle sounds good & looks good for it's price range.
I do not believe that Remington wants to shut this new bolt gun down, just the opposite. It could in time mean the elimination of the Rem 710/770 rifles. These rifles of course exist to cut into the low end market & esp. Savage. They fall short on quality & performance compared to Savage. The 710 looks to be on the way out & the 770 is a temporary band aid. If the XL7 does well, they can ease the 770 out of the picture. Rem wins because the company reputation is enhanced with the elimination of lessor quality pieces, overall sales
numbers don't suffer if the XL7 picks up the slack. It is a no-brainer that the Savage numbers will take the hit if the new rifle does well,
so in the Cerberus world & the Rem world it is win win situation.
The combination of the Rem bolt guns sold & the new Marlins being sold will amount to an overall larger market share for papa Rem & big pop Cerberus as well. Many industries are doing the same thing. They can buy more raw materials (steel, stocks, etc) & get an overall lower price. Advertising & other costs in some cases are cut as well.
As in other industries, the survivors will be fewer in number & larger. Increasing costs & gov/liability issues drive this, but it is better this way than to see
ALL FOREIGN MADE PRODUCTS being our
ONLY choices.
Not saying I like it, but it is the wave of the future in about every industry that I am aware of.
