Caribou horns

Here is the problem;

  I have 2 sets of bou horns that are blood stained. The velvet was not removed till after getting home.

Here what we tried;
   Soaking in a lake for 5 weeks. the racks are too large to use a tub, so no bleach.

   power wash at a car wash, hot soapy water and cold rinse.

   steel wool  course and 0000

  Any other ideas??

A lot of places up here you can see where they have been painted/stained to get the effect you want.  Thos bloodstains are almost impossible to remove.  Another good option is having synthetic velvet put on.  I'm not sure where you would get it done but there is at least one taxidermist here in anchorage who will do it.  My buddy had a set down,  puts a light fuzzy coat similar to the stuff they put on plastic horse figures and stuch for kids toys.
