I am thinking with glass marbles rather than plain old rocks, it would be more than adequate. Of course the rubber not an old tire tube. Just MHO

No it was a serious question. It has been debated with the small bores being heavy enough to adequately harvest deer. In fact the only one I havent seen is a daisy red rider, so I thought maybe a sling shot.

I like your style. As long as you, "Pick your shot" and "stay within your limits" you could certainly kill a whitetail with a slingshot according to some around here.

I did some checking on ballistics. It should be good to about 175 yards of course depending on the size of the marble you fling or should I say sling

I'm sure it would be 'cause it ain't what you use it's where you stick 'em. My buddy was talking to his uncle who knows a guy whose cousin Bubba overheard a fellow in a bar that only used a slingshot and he'd kilt over 200 all of which were DRTs. $:-\$ I'd kinda limit myself to under say 300 yards unless I was using a premium marble.

Hmm as this is the small bore rifle forum, surely it's not the proper place to discuss Sling shots no matter what the calibre. May I suggest that you post in the new forums section

As ti If a deer can be killed with a sling shot the answer must be yes after all at one time it was the hunting and warfare weapon even mentioned as a Giant Killer in the Bible

I know I would never try it but I think ball bearings would be the way to go. When I was a kid I played a lot with a wrist rocket sling shot. They are a lot more powerful than people think. If you were to do this The shots would have to be under 20 yards and would still have to be perfect. It would not be humane in my opinion and not fair to the deer. Not to mention illeagal. Just don't try it. Dale

I shot one this year with a slingshot and a .390 round ball...Hit him in the ham to run him off my stand so I could get down...Didn't hurt him as I've seen him again...Velocity was probably about 100-150 fps...

Now if you can get the velocity up to about 1,800 feet per second and use a .530 ball, it would do the job...That's about what my flinter does...

Never underestimate your opponent.
Even a slingshot, when in the hands of a skilled "slinger" can cause a serious hurt.
When in doubt, pray for guidance........

You know this is really a ridiculous question. I keep reading threads about is the 243 or the 22-25 or the 223 or the 22 Mag and even one is the 204 good for deer. Now a sling shot!!!!!!! what next the Red Ryder BB gun. Come on now. This is a gun forum and it really does not even belong here. What even goes through peoples heads even thinking about deer hunting with a sling shot. I am just venting here a little and I wish I would not have responded earlier in this thread because it is just a ridiculous question. Dale

The sling stones used by guys like David were about the size of baseballs, and coming off a sling would be considerably faster than a major league fastball. But you would still need to make a head shot for a clean kill.

If you use anything smaller, you may want to use a bonded or partition stone!

Guys,
I have been on the sling shot auction sites looking for a 25 bore shot. I plan to upgrade the wrist lock, maybe paint the frame a cool camo pattern, and re-bed the sling. Then I would have a capable sling. Does anyone have a any advice for the re-bedding project? LOL This is tounge in cheek. Neither I nor anyone else has any intention of shooting a deer with a Slingshot.

I am way ahead of you. I have ordered a Montana slingman Kevlar frame and a 338 Firestone match grade sling. I know that some will say that 338 is overkill for deer but I have slings in 243, 7-08, 30/06, 300 win mag so this is the natural progression. I could always load down to 06 levels if need be. This is going to be a sweet project.

That is not legal here, slings must be over 22cal. I have a cousin that knows a guy who's brothers third cousin shoots them with a 223 all of the time. he only takes ear hole shots and I understand that he is deadly. any optic suggestions?

Great idea. I was thinking maybe a 6.5x20x58 for long range shooting but on second thought, I think that a Laser is the way to go. after i finish this project, I think that I will look for a catapult as well. Nothing too big, maybe a 700 nitro for an upcoming Africa trip. Does anybody have any experience with these? I was looking at a balistic table the other day and they seem to have a bit of a rainbow trajectory. Can anything be done about this? Maybe a polimer tip?

maybe the use of plastic ( fake ) stones in place of real stone would help bullet speed but the down side is the fake stone would slow faster and penetrate less ! maybe even blow up if bone was encountered at close range !
were you looking at a stopping cat. or general purpose cat. ?

You guys are all wet. You need at least a five pound cannon to hunt small deer. If heaven forbid you should decide to go after hogs, the I would recommend a 155 mm howitzer preferably with a radar tracking system. I guess if you wanted to go primitive you might be able to use a stinger or even an old Carl Gustav recoiless rifle. Unless you hunt in Montana. then you need a cruise missile ., but that might not have the range you need.
