Setting up a .308..
« on: November 23, 2007, 10:12:16 AM »
I have the rifle sighted in and it is shooting OK..

Just one small problem; the extractor lip that hooks under the rim of the cartridge is straight across, not curved to fit the chamber contour.

When I put in a new round, it shaves off a sliver of brass from the round side of the cartridge body. Whats worse, is that I have a bit of trouble withdrawing the empty from the chamber due to this drag.

Is there likely to be any harm if I were to file the center of the extractor lip just a bit, so I could more easily pull out the empty ?

   Anyone ever done that ?

Yup, had the same problem with my 45 Colt carbine extractor, unfired brass was easy to remove, but fired brass did the exact same thing as yours, only it was just on one side of the extractor claw, a little touch with the dremel and all was well. ;)
