Which 22 for squirrel

Henry H001 or Marlin 39A. Mainly for squirrels-bunnies. Maybe scoped. Which is more accurate? Better Quality? Price? Reliability? Thanks

A whole bunch depends on what you prefer.  I doubt many have done a side by side, so it comes down to a beauty contest.  I happen to like Marlin levers, so I vote that way.  Lots of folks like the Henry .22s.  They will vote that way. 

I have a Winchester 9422M that I really like, but they are no longer made.

Which do you like best?

Well I like the 39As barrel length but dont like the curved stock. I like the Straight stock on the Henry but wish it had a longer barrel. If only there was a cross between the two...

The Henry will be just as accurate, just as dependable, just as enjoyable, and as a big bonus, it'll be a lot cheaper to buy.

The biggest problem with a Henry is the finish. Their bluing leaves a lot to be desired, and the receiver is powder coated, painted or something. Of course the Marlins have a good finish.

I've owned both, two Marlins, and a few Henry's. Either will serve you fine for small game.

Yeah, I might pick up the Henry tomorrow from walmart. $229 seem like a good price? Its the closest place around that sells em. Didn't like the front sights.I was expecting to see a bead like a ruger but it was flat like a pistol sight instead. Oh well no biggy, I was planning on putting a scope on it anyway.

BTW, is the receiver on the Henrys Steel or Aluminum? How would a scope be mounted on the 39A? Dovetail rings or a scope rail?

Better Quality? Marlin all the way
Price? Henry, but quality makes up for price in my opinion
More accurate? Nothing against Henry's, my Golden 39A is dead balls accurate with iron sights
Reliability? Again I have to go with Marlin
Either gun I'm sure would do good when hunting squirrels and rabbit....as stated before, what gun do you shoot more accurately and feels more comfortable for you to shoot. That's the gun I'd use

I've been using a Marlin 39D since the early 70's and really like it. And I inherited a 39A about 10 years ago, so I have two barrel lengths to choose from.

I like my Henry. I haven't hunted with it yet, but I may later in the winter. I would love to own a really nice 39A. Tough choice. If money were no object...I hate when people say that, when is money no object? Anyway, I would buy both if I could afford it. If I couldn't afford both then I would buy the cheaper of the two.

Got to agree with you 100% there. A good example; when I was younger I wanted a nice Browning O/U 12 ga. but all I could really afford was a H&R single shot 12 ga from the local pawn shop for $50....Killed many pheasant, squirrel and rabbit with that gun.

I bounced nearly the same question around and finally decided on a Henry golden boy.  I just didn't like the sights or the checkering on the Marlin.  I also tried the browning 22 and  the hammer release was too great.  Just looked at it in the store.

Kinda, I pulled the hammer back and I tried not to let the hammer go forward, But it did come fwd a little hard.  I then tried a second time and the same thing.  I wasn't trying to dry fire it but get a feel for the trigger, Hammer and lever action.

The henry action is butter smooth.  The Marlin is also great.  It's a problem.

Believe that!!! I bought my 7yr old a Henry Youth 22 Lever for Christmas, I love the action on that rifle!!! I've never jacked an action on a lever gun as smooth as that.
