This may be a little like talking about old girlfriends but here goes.
Rifles I wish I still owned:
Big Bore 94XTR in .356 win
Model 88 Winchester in .308 win
Savage 99 in .300 savage (with schnabel forend & magazine indicator)
Remington 721 in .300 H&H magnum
Model 94 .32 win special made in 1941
and a few others including shotguns like an AH Fox Sterlingworth 12 guage made in Philly in '26.

I was young and had a family to support, worked in the woods (frequent layoffs) so I sold the rifles thinking I'd move on to bigger and better things!
I wish I still had them all but it's fun to rebuild a collection now that I can afford it!
I'm sure some of you have similar stories.

What special form of insanity posessed you at that point?

Me, I have only ever parted with one, a Browning Stainless Stalker in 338WM. Can't say I really regret it, I just didn't use it enough.

I guess you could say two, I parted with a useless jam o matic Remington a few years back too.

I can only claim the temporary insanity of youth! I sold a few, traded a few thinking the grass was greener on the other side of the fence. If I knew then what I know now...
I can't believe I'm unique in that regard. :shock:

I got rid of a .444 Marlin that I wish I had back. Some others that I would hang onto now if I still had them are a 1910 Ross, a Remington 660 in .308, and a Globe Mauser in .308 Norma.

Only a few rifles were sold to get rid of them;I miss the others.
The one that I miss the most,is a 1903 Springfield Mark 1 rifle that I got from the DCM for,I think,$19.00. It might have been $15.00
Any way,I got some poor soul to trade a brand new Savage 16 gauge shotgun for it,that was worth about $40.00.

Only going to list one otherwise I will start crying and have a nervous breakdown or heart attack but here it is : Savage 99f in 300 sav. cal. weaver 1.5x4.5 scope in flip over mounts, a good friend wanted it badly and I said OK as the new hot rods were the thing to shoot, what a foolish thing to do but it is done and when my friend passed away the rifle just disapered, his widow could not locate it in the collection too many people in the house after he passed on.

I currently own 34 firearms, give or take a couple, but I've sold 38, give or take a couple, over the years. I pretty much wish I had them all back.

BTW, all 34 fit into one safe..........

I wish I had never traded my first rifle I bought... a Marlin Model 39A lever-action .22 rimfire rifle. It was smooth, accurate and fun to shoot... it would have made a great "companion" rifle to my Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage caliber.

I have only sold one gun in my life and that was because it was truly a pile of poop semi auto pistol.

I do have guns that I rarly shoot any more and often think about selling them to fund other firearm purchases. I have a list of guns I want but, well all in do time (and money).

I just can't get myself to sell a gun that has been good to me. A good exampe is a GP100 in 357 mag with the 7 inch BBL. I hardley ever shoot this gun anymore and really it serves no practicle purpose. Its way to big & heavy to carry and really not enough gun to hunt with. Well it would work for deer or hogs close in but there are clearly better options.

So why do I keep it ? Its very accurate, reliabel and trouble free. It had a trigger job and it very easy to shoot even with the heavy loads. Its been good to me so I treat it like one of my children. How do you get rid of one of your children ??

:? That woukd have to be a Winchester 1886 in 50-110 EX. Traded it for an 1886 SRC in 45-70. Still have the 45-70, but wish I had the 50-110, too.

Oh! this topic brings tears to my eyes; I had probable better pour two fingers of Makers Mark and put "Tennessee Lineman" on the CD playerl.

But I'll fess up to my own blunders;
1.a Rem 660 in .350 magnum caliber.
2.A Weatherby semi-auto in .22LR and with curly maple stock (XII - ?).
3.two Remington 40XB models in 22-250 and 220 Swift (my first divorce required it).
4.an Anshutx 54 sporter in .22LR (also in the divorce proceedings).
5.a Sako L461 heavy-barrel varmint in .222 mag.

Now PLEASE don't bring up the topic of pistols we regret selling!

No real regrets. I've bought and sold a couple of hundred and the ones I sold financed the keepers. Did have to buy back a Marlin in .44 Mag when I got heavy into CB shooting and would buy back a Remington leftie 788 in 6mm and a 700 leftie in .270 if they ever turn back up.

But I'm really happy with the ones I kept.

My first Savage model 99 in 300 sav. It had the Brass mag. with the number on it , Square lever end and a square style stock. I can see it now falling out of the canoe.. Dam

First of all, I realized while thinking about this that I've never gotten rid of a Levergun. Next thing I realized was, I WANT THEM ALL BACK!

I haven't sold anything in quite a few years. One thing I've learned is that in most cases you can't get them back. I just work some overtime or moonlight now if money gets tight. No more selling a gun to pay a bill that somebody else ran up in the first place!

Lost track of all the guns I've sold over the last 30 years. The only gun I regret selling wasn't a rifle, but the money I got from it bought my first 1881 Marlin in .45-70!
It was a 1875 Remington pistol, in .44-40 caliber. Pretty nice gun, and I did get a beautiful 1881, with cash to boot, so I look at it every time I feel a bit of seller's remorse!

Marlin 336 "Texan" model in .44 Mag.

Remington Rolling Block which I bought through the mail for $7.50, then put the new barrel, stock and forearm kit from Numrich Arms on (Kit was in .444 Marlin).

Sporterized Springfield bought from from Klein Sporting Goods mail order in 1964.
