SavageT, others, SB dies in 99s?

Gentlemen

Specifically, should I need small based dies to load .308 in a 99?  I've never used one and don't know how much leverage you have on one of these.  Have maybe an option to get one in .308, have regular dies, would I need the small based variety?

Maybe!
Depends how hot you load 'em. There's a bit of individual gun thing too. My wife's BLR needs them. I rarely have to squeeze a round in in my savage.

I use standard dies in my 99 in .250 Savage.
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!

I use regular dies in Savage 99s in 300sav, 30/30 and .358win and .308win in my BLR and have never had a problem. I do use brass fired in the specific rifle I'm loading for though. Only one way to find out. I do cycle all hunting rounds through the action before I take them in the field.

I use RCBS small base dies for the .300 Savage.  The real advantage comes when I resize 7.62 NATO (.308 Win) brass that has been fired in a machine gun.  It is recommended that brass that has been fired in a machine gun be resized with small base dies.

I have not noticed adnormal resistance when using these dies.  I use them for all loading for the .300 Savage.
