Been wanting to buy a encore for years.I mainly want it for ml hunting and maybe yote hunting. So what do I need to buy. .

Buy a Encore with a M/L barrel and get a 223, 22-250 barrel and rifle forearm to go with it. That will cover you M/L needs and yote hunting

Depending on what powder you use for the ML, they can be messy to shoot so I would go with stainless steel. Also, the Pro Hunter ML barrels have features like an easily removable plug that makes them a bit more attractive than the older barrels.

As far as coyote barrels are concerned, you have bunches of choices. A 223 Rem. barrel would be great especially if you wanted to shoot cheaper military surplus rounds. A 22-250 barrel would give you a bit more range. There are, of course, many other suitable choices like 7mm/08 Rem., 25/06 Rem., etc.

My advice. Don't do it. No way. If you buy one of these guns, then you start buying barrels....I mean like rabbits. Then you buy Contender frame's if you bot the Encore first....or vice-versa. Then, you start the barrel process for the Contender!!!!!

Then your hooked. It's a never ending cycle. Then you get on these things called "forums" and tell people about the accuracy of your guns. And you defend how wonderful they are.

It's a sickness.

So.....did you get one yet?

....been going to those danged group therapy meetings for 33 years...hadn't helped yet. Found some good deals on T/C barrels there though. Just because the rest of us jumped off the cliff is plenty good reason for you to do the same. The best thing about T/C's is that they are so durable,....mine have out-lasted several wives. off a bench my 45cal t/c with 100 grains of triple seven and 198 grain powerbelt areo tips get 3/4inch at 125. that took a bunch of range time

I have the .50cal and with 2 triple 7 pellets I get 3/4 inch groups @100yds easy..............

If I could, I would wait a few weeks. After hunting season you can usually pick up a lightly used weapon and save quite a few bucks. I have bought guns a pawn shops right after Christmas at a fraction of book value.

What you should do is get an encore as a handgun. then sell /trade off the handgun barrel for a M.L. barrel and buy a shoulder stock.

this way you will have the most for your money, you will be able to make it a rifle or handgun legally if you want

Just wondering why my originally purchased 300WinMag Encore is not legal when I put a 10" .44RemMag barrel on? Where is the law(link would be great here) that says I'm breaking the law?

Aw man....I hate these T\C handgun-longgun registration discussions. They always end up in 25 page post and no one ever has the answer. And...I think ( amateurs answer) that it may be a State by State issue. However, here in PA. I have bot Contender frames that I have registered as just that..."Frames". They are not shown as either handguns or longguns. Now, I'm sure someone will give me grief, but I have both long barrels and short barrels for my frames.

So far...the Fed's havn't come a callin.

check out the BATF website.
If you put a barrel shorter then 16" on a rifle it is considered a short barreled rifle and with out the proper paperwork and "tax" will land you under the jail.

you can convert a firearm to a less restrictive form. IE from a strict handgun to a less strict rifle with no worries.

it is simple to just buy a handgun frame and then put a stock and rifle,shotgun or M.L. barrel on it and not have to worry.

and YES T/C can tell you if the frame left the shop as a rifle or handgun and even what barrel it had on it.

I called them about my encore and found out it was a handgun hunter package in 22-250 and when it was shipped.

everyone is saying what they do and that is fine but please play it safe and do not be our test case it is not worth it.

Google this subject and read the opinions for yourself. You will find both sides (and lots of opinions legal and otherwise) and the case law that established the rules about this (at least the Federal side). Then make up your mind and do what you want to about it. The Supreme Court case that is cited in these discussions only addresses handgun to rifle conversions, and for that matter only on the Contender. Encore and G2 were not in existence at the time, and all Contenders to that time were shipped as handguns. Personally I won't give anyone the chance to land me in the slammer over something like this. My frames are all known handguns when shipped, and converted to rifles as per the ruling.

Guess Im lost. On another site I have a couple offers to sell me a few guns. Im a little lost,what all types are there on the encore? And what are the prices of them all? One guy said he just had to have one and bought a pro hunter and wanted to sell his other one.

It's not a sickness and yes you go to meetings.
You may go to the range alone but you will draw a crowd when you start shooting soda bottles at 200 yards and baking potatoes at 50. We call the potatoes Simu Squirrels. The .223 out of the 14" pistol turns a standard potato into a white ball about 3-4' depending on the size and where you hit it.
The good thing about the meetings is others with one will encourage you rather than get you to quit.
My only advice is to register a new one as a pistol. Legally you can turn a pistol into a rifle but not the other way. At some point you will want to shoot the Encore as a hand gun and go deer or predator hunting.
Your best bet is to get a T/C catalog as the website leaves something to be desired and doesn't give you options as far as barrel and caliber. (If it does this low tech redneck could not pull anything up)
Get one you can transform it into what you want a piece at a time.

Iffin your wantin to buy a T\C frame, either an Encore (which will handle both the smaller calibers and the larger ones---BTW, the Encore frame is larger than the Contender frame...weighs about 1 lb more......or the Contender frame....old frames are called "Contender's" new frames are called "G-2's" aka generation-2....and handle the lighter caliber's and are a bit nicer in handgun set up) or the Contender, then you probably need to spend some time just educating yourself. Search the T\C GB for sale forum for frames or complete guns, or visit gunbroker http://www.gunbroker.com/ and do a search of Encore or ProHunter guns or frames.

Watch out for the guys who want to sell you frames or guns and send you "fuzzy" pictures....or send you a great looking pic...then tell you someone else may buy it....but they have another one "just like it". Then they tell you the first one sold.....then send you a fuzzy pic of the second one. These guys are shysters. Run away from 'em.

Gunbroker can be high on some stuff, but you can get some decent deals. For a Contender frame in "good shape" I expect to pay about $225. Yeah, some guys will say $200 or so...but then when I buy a gun, i keep it forever.....so an x-tra $25 for one in good shape is not a bunch of coin.

Check out the sellers feedback as well. If it's a gun dealer, usually the feedback is good. I've bot several guns off of gunbroker and all has went well. You will need a local FFL and expect to pay their transfer fee. find out what that is first so you don't have any "surprises". Also, find out what shipping cost is going to run you....and find out what method of payment the seller wants. Some take credit cards....some just want money orders.

Anyway.....I hope this helps.

the pro hunter is just another marketing gimmick. it is the same frame then they changed the forend a little and butt stock then fluted the barrels.
