I found recently the length of pull for a bolt action rifle for me is 13". It makes my M70 30-06 handle much better. I liked it so much I'm working on an aluminum butt plate for my M77 Ruger .243. My M77 has the old (and ugly) synthetic stock so it can't be shortened. I considered an after market laminated stock but the factory stock while ugly as sin works well for me. I can use the rifle as bought but after taking off the recoil pad and shouldering the rifle I found it more to my taste. Any of you guys had your stocks shortened or lengthened? Dave

I found that 13.25" was just right. I have 2 guns out now getting shortened. Browning 1885 and an Anschutz 1422D.

Actually, I have never had any of my rifles adjusted for length. I don't know if this is good or bad, but it has just never seemed to bother me.

On the other hand, I have Beretta Xtrema Shotgun that just seems to be too dang long. I think that's because the special recoil pad on that gun seems to be about 2" or so (or at least it feels that way.) As such, I was seriously considering having the LOP shortened on that gun, but I'm not sure I can because it is a synthetic realtree camo stock.

I never had a stock adjusted either, but you got me to thinking so I measured all of mine and they were 13.25 to 13.5 on my High power rifles. Shotguns the same. The 22's are 13.5 to 14" except a 1906 Win. which was 13" and it felt a little short but I don't shoot it much anymore. I guess alot of the lenght would depend on how long your arms were. My guns all have the wood stocks on them so maybe the synthetic stocks are a little longer, I don't know. Carl L.

Ok now that you are wondering.... during last deer season I felt my M70 stock was too long for me. After deer seson I took the recoil pad off of it and low and behold it was almost perfect with out the pad on it. If you want to know about your rifles just carefully remove the recoil pad and shoulder it. The scope eye relief may not be right but you may like the balance and swing better. If you're a stock crawler to get on th scope the eye relief may be dead on. Dave

I found that for me the length of pull should be 98 - 95% of the length from the inside of your elbow (with your arm bent at 90degrees) to the first joint from your index finger tip while it's at 45 degrees. I can tolerate a shorter pull more easily than a longer one.
