Anybody ever hunted with a slingshot, and what were the results?

Never really hunted with one but have used them to keep the squirrels shut up when deer hunting. A time or two I even accidentally hit one. I always found a .22 was much better for squirrel hunting. I had a brother-in- law that used a slingshot to take frogs, snakes, birds, rabbits and squirrels. The largest thing I saw him kill was a rock marmot when we were on a wilderness camping trip in Colorado. He was good enough that I sure wouldn't want him slinging those ball bearings at me.

I have no idea how many rabbits I plugged with a wrist rocket. I even took a couple pheasants. I saw a site recently called slingshots USA , they have a lazer aimed slingshot. I might have to get one , I just can't resist a new toy.

Used to kill birds with 'em. Hit a rabbit once, saw the marble hit and bounce back towards me. Poor rabbit ran off and I felt ashamed of myself!

Never again. Got too many good airguns, .22s etc. to try that stunt again.

3/8 inch ball bearings are a whole different game from using a marble.

I've thought about doing that as well. I was thinking like a little 32 or 36 cal round ball would really whack a bunny.

I use one to target clumps of brush in clear cuts, while hunting deer. I have scared up quite a few deer over the years. I have taken a few types of small game with it. I'm not as good with it as I used to be, but I would take a shot at a bird or a rabbit if it presented itself.

Search the general hunting, and predator forums for "Jamaldog". He's a very advanced slingshot hunter.

I used a couple when I was a kid. I bought one daisy and one crosman, both were the kind that had the permanent backstrap not the folding kind. I really enjoyed them and shot the steel shot and no telling how many rocks. I liked them more than airguns because they are more powerful and much more compact. I was more pleased with the crosman than I was with the daisy. It felt like it was a higher quality. If you are going to get one I would highly recommend that you look into getting a stronger band. Both of the brands bands broke but the crosman lasted longer. They are very fast and reasonably accurate. Just be very careful because they are prone to ricocheting. I too have thought about getting one again for the same reason of quiet small game hunting.

I hunted big game with them as a kid growing up on the ranch. Whittled out of a crotch branch with inner tube power bands and piece of heavy leather for the pouch all tied off with sinew. BTW, the big game was usually grasshoppers, stink bugs, pine squirrels, snakes and an occasional lizard, rabbit or bird. Never had a store bought slingshot. When I got older I made and used slings instead and really got quite good with them. A lot more powerful than any slingshot and capable of some pretty impressive results. Never got pushed into trying them on a "Goliath", but killed quite a lot of small game, upland birds and waterfowl with them up through my teens.

Made slings again when my son got tired of his store bought slingshots and showed interest in them. But we only used them for entertainment on camping trips and outings. Pine cones out of the tallest trees was a favored target, as was anything in the middle of a lake, pond or floating down a river.

i killed a lot of rabbits and squirrels growing up with a wristrocket. cut an inch off the bands before you put them on and it will make them faster and stronger. never was too impressed with the red bands, until they were trimmed. they were more durable than the regular surgical tubing. biggest thing i ever killed was a possum. he was up in a persimmon tree shoving them in his mouth while hanging from his tail and a hind leg. i cracked his skull and he was done. we would scrape the sand from the riverbank down to the clay, then roll it into balls to dry. also used egg sinkers in the 1 ounce size. they don't fly real fast, but they will kill a rabbit with a body shot. kind of scares me to think about when my kids get their first slingshots...

The only thing that got killed was my BACK SIDE after i hit my mean older sister in the leg and then broke ( accidentally ) a window on my mom's car.

A formidable weapon I can assure you. I was shot in the chest with one
about 20 years ago. this kid was an accomplished marksman with it
and hit me in the sternum. It dropped me to my knees. He had been shooting the windows
out of the local high school and when we caught him he pulled a modern day David
and Goliath on me. I really wanted to shoot that little sucker but restrained myself.
not only was he a great shot, he was a fast runner. we never caught him again.

I grew up with a slingshot I made out of a forked branch from mom's apricot tree. For that I got a session with "THE HAIRBRUSH".I learned to play marbles and got in trouble at school for wining and never giving any back. I was using them for ammo. I got quail and rabbit along the first freeways back in the 50s but pheasant were just to big until I put a wire around the fork to support an arrow. When dad found out he went down to the salvage yard and bought 150 lbs of 3/8" ballbearings from a bad production run. No need for arrows after that, but we did eat baked pheasant about once a week. When I got back from my hitch in the army Mom had stored my old Slingshot and had dad put on new surgical tubing. I have had that slingshot now for 56 years. Now I guess I would have to call that poaching, back then all the neighbors thought it showed initiative. I do admit that Mom was generous and when she baked pheasant she generally had me take the extras over to those who lived around us. No real welfare then, you just helped your neighbor when you could.

i used to take my dad's leather work shoes(throwaways),cut the tongue out,poke a couple holes in the ends and tie on two shoelaces,and have a sling that would send rocks downrange with so much velocity that they would literally hum as they were flying.....

Hey zoner, When I was a kid (7th grade) we split it up so that three guys had a leather boot lace or leather patch only. Getting together on a schoolyard, two slip knots and we could launch an orange through the third floor open window of the teachers lounge from 25yds out and never miss. Oh yeah we got caught with either a boot lace or an old piece of leather but our pedagogs never figured it out. Fifty years ago me and my two buddies were mean kids giving teachers break room a new meaning.

I have killed over 100 squirls with a Falcon 5 slingshot when I was a kid. They are ilegal in NJ now (Like most other things) but I kept the pot full and the neighborhood thin with game! I cast 36 Cal round balls and I was deadly!J.Michael

As a kid I never left home without one and killed a lot of game with them. Thought i was pretty good until one day I was at my Grandpas house and was outside where a bunch of my Dads brothers were standing talking. MY Grandma came out and said I need a chicken for dinner. There were a bunch wandering around about 25 yds. away. She said get me that white leghorn over there. My uncle saw one of the kids had a homemade slingshot so took it, put in a rock ,just pulled it back, didn't even aim, hit that chicken in the head, knocked it dead
told the kid to go get it and went back to talking with the others like nothing had happened.
Never thought I was very good after that.
