Ruger super redhawk accuracy

I just bought a shr and was wondering what other people are getting for accuracy. Mine is a .454 and I will probably limit my shots to 50 yds. If any of you guys handload for this I would like to know what you are finding to be an accurate load. I have not shot mine yet and hope to go out this weekend.

Mine is in 44 but with a 300 gr, Sierra  bullet in front of 21grs. of H110 it will shoot 2-3" at a 100 meters. Scoped of course. I'm not really that good a shot with a revolver so it might do better in the right hands.

I've got a  SRH in 454 with a 9.5" barrel. I hand load mine with the 300 grain Hornady XTP/MAG bullet and enough Hodgdon Lil'Gun powder to give me just over 1600 fps. I use Starline brass and Remington 7 1/2 primers. I also crimp with a Lee Factory crimp die. My gun will shoot these loads at 100 yards in about a three inch group.

buddy al has a couple of them. he thinks there kind of ugly as do I. but his thought is someday his eyes may not work with open sights and a scoped gun will be needed. He has shot groups crowding on an inch at a 100 yards with his 454 scoped and just a couple weeks back i shot his 480 off the bench at 50 yards with a scope and it was the best groups ive ever got out of a revolver. Basically every shot into the same ragged hole. he was loading 360 bailicticast wfn plain bases i cast with my mold with wc820. Im not sure of the load but believe it was 18 grains. Im not a fan of that wfn either but it sure does shoot well in that gun. I guess I have to go back to the theroy that the only way to judge the looks of a gun is over the sights and looking at the target.

What do you mean had?  Did you sell it?  If so, can you state why you sold it?  I am looking in to purchasing a SRH 454...

I load for my 7.5" SRH 454 Casull I work my loads up until they start to have sticky extraction then back off 1/2 gr which results in a very accurate safe load every time I also use a Lee factory crimp die...

You can over tighten the die and give to much crimp that makes your pressures jump so be careful not to over crimp, basically with jacketed bullets I give only a 1 1/4 turn adjustment and up to 1 3/4 turn adjustment with cast bullets.

Here is some of my load data that is safe in my guns and results in perfect extraction everytime, I am using Rem 7 1/2 primers and Winchester brass.

38grs H110 with 240gr Hornady XTP-Mag's = 1880fps

30grs H110 with 300gr XTP-Mag's = 1585fps

31grs H110 with 300gr Speer Gold Dot's = 1625fps

27grs Lil-gun with 355gr Beartooth or 360gr Cast Performance WLNGC's = 1525fps

24grs Lil-gun with 395gr Cast Peformance WLNGC's =  1420fps

23grs Lil-gun with 405gr Beartooth WLNGC's = 1400fps

I also have a 4.25" SRH 454 that I use all of the same loads in it but reduced the 405gr loads to 1200fps with 21.5grs Lil-gun the 23gr load above give 1330fps from this gun but give me quite the wrist twist so I don't shoot them that often. 

Hope this info helps it did take me quite a bit of time to work of the loads listed above.

I have heard people complain about the expanding of the cylinder when top loads are fired in SRH's resulting in cases being hard to extract, I don't see this as a disadvantage I see it as Ruger gave me a built in pressure gauge for safe pressure loads.

I was not a pistol shooter until I bought and shot a .44 magnum  7-1/2" bbl. scoped Super Red Hawk.The more I practice the more confident I become.My 100 yard results are almost that of the post from KH above.I get about a 3" group consistently with the occassional flyer.
