K1500 trick
« on: October 17, 2007, 06:51:49 AM »
This is a little trick I picked up on the farm.

There is a lot of talk in the off road world about upgrading your transfer case to allow 2wd low range.
Some of these kits are very expensive and time consuming to install.
If you are driving a 1988 to 1998 chevy\gmc full size 4x4 all you have to do is pull the four wheel drive fuse.
This may work other trucks too.

I do this when I back my boat in my steep drive.
My truck has a 5 speed and a high geared reverse.
I can go very slow and steady around the corner and up the hill with out unneeded tire or clutch wear.

You can also install a toggle switch inline on the axle disconnect actuator circuit. Or Like on my old S-10 reroute the actuators vacuum lines into the cab so you can control the operation via a valve.
