very nice harpy. is that recoil reducer in the stock the kind with the mercury in it? and if so how does it work? I have been thinking of something like that for my Marlin 444P, I am also going to lap it, how tough  a job was that?

444marlin,
The stock is the original Win 94 BB Black Shadow stock that was modified to fit the Compstock. http://knoxx.com/product/compstock.html

Gerry Keen from keengunsmithing.com did the modification and it works "EXCELLENT". After having a neck fusion, I do not want the heavy recoil that the gun will produce with my 350gr to 450gr bullets, so I don’t really care about the appearance. I want comfort and control and I achieve it with the compstock. The muzzle brake is one that can be engaged/disengaged w/o ever removing it. I can spend a day at the bench when both are engaged.  When I am out hunting or out for some light shooting I can disengage the MB and only use the compstock. The compstock factory says you get 54% recoil reduction, and I believe them.

Harpy:  Well, WOW!  I sure do like the looks of that Winchester of yours, not to mention either the ammo/bullets you brew up for it and the groups you get with it.

Now for some questions:  Who slicked up your action and trigger?  Where. or by whom did you get the muzzle brake installed?  Who is lengthening (?) the action cycle on your Winnie to handle those longer bullets?  Do you sell any of your bullets.

I now own 3 of those Big Bore 444s:  The first rifle that I sent to the Montana Rifleman, a (used only once by the looks) Timber Carbine and a new Black Shadow.  Am I a fool for punishment, or what?

You also mentioned that Gary Keen completed the stock work on your Black Shadow - did he complete the other 'refinements' as well or did someone else complete those?

I most certainly hope your neck fusion doesn't bother you too much and wish you well.  By the way, were you able to convince the doctor to install a recoil buffer in your neck or wasn't he keen on the idea?

ps:  The stock to action fit on the new Black Shadow I purchased doesn't match the quality of the wood stock to finish on either of my other two Winchesters.  Is this something I should know about with the Black Shadow or is this just something that happens once in a while?  Thanks.  Mikey.
