Ruger super redhawk grips

Any of you guys shooting the shr in .454? Do you use the factory grips or aftermarket? I am looking at the Hogue grip but was wondering if the factory grip is just as good.

Mine came w/hogue grips w/embossed ruger eagle from the factory. One can go to their website and clik on revolver accessories. I've not had anyother grips on mine and have no desire to ~ guess me be happy w/the ruger labled hogues as I don't think it can get any better.

I have XL hands and did not like the Hogue grip I tried on my SRH. I sold them to a buddy of mine with medium hands and he likes them. I put the factory grip back on mine.

Me thinks there may be some confusion on my part re 'factory' grips.

Having recently purchased my SRH, however, currently they only come w/the Ruger badged Hogues (454 and 480) and of course Target Grey finish ~ no wood paneled rubber grips nor satin stainsless finish. It may be a recent change as the gun case is a lil' small where the butt of the revolver goes when wearing the factory Hogues. Is that a cost cutting measure ? Anyway the Ruger Hogues works for me because it is softer which is a plus for the 454 AND w/the carved fingergroove, its a match for my smallish hand.

My grips that I like are the ones with the laminated wood inserts.

Just to clarify, my shr .454 came with the rubber grips with wood inserts. I used to have a S&W 44 mag with hogue grips and I really did like them. Still kicking myself for ever selling that one.

Ditto what Slufoot said.  I have a .44 SRH Alaskan that came with the cushioned Hogue grips, and they simply don't fit my hand.

I bought a pair of used factory grips with the wood inserts. I strongly prefer them, particularly on D/A.  Perceived recoil is also less, at least to me.

I maybe a little late on the thread , but I just got a SRH 454 , it came with a  Hogue monogrip with ruger insigna .  My understanding was a lot of people complained about the previous grips with the wood insert....Hence Ruger started putting the monogrip on the Super Redhawk , believe they started doing this in Jan 08.  It is a different grip than is on the 4" Redhawk ,(have one) also the monogrip from Ruger is the smaller one , I happened to have a Hogue Monogrip for a SRH that I put on mine , its a little bigger and has blue insert inside the grip that soaks up a lot of recoil.....I like it.   If you look at Midway website , you'll see the two different types of rubber grips from Hogue for the SRH....as stated the factory SRH's now come with the smaller of the two.

You could get a set of Crimson Trace laser grips I used my stock panels from my original grips only issue is I had to grind down the area of the grip where the top rear screw goes thru it stuck out to far and smacked my thumb joint.

I have shot hundreds of 240gr @ 1450fps on up to 405gr @ 1330fps with these grips on and zero has never moved even after taking the grips off and reinstalling them.

I have the Hogue Monogrip on my SRH and it fits my medium sized hand just fine.

It's my understanding that Ruger used to purchase the wooden inserts for thier grips from Lett's Grips.  Lett's went out of business so Ruger switched over to Hogue since there wasn't a source for the wood insert grip any longer.  There's still a few out there on store shelves but it's the end of an era for the wood insert grip.  They are widely available on eBay though.
