The Win. 94 in 44 Mag has a 1:26 twist rate. The 1:20 of the Marlin 444 is better or heavier bullets. Plus I wanted the ported barrel. Other than that the Winchester should work fine. The only problem is that you have to cut the stop on the carrier over 1/3 inch. The only one I know who has converted a Win. 94 had a series of broken carriers. The only way he solved the problem was to use carriers from really old guns, because the metal in the older guns is better than the modern ones. His conversion was going from a 357 Mag to a 357 Maximum. The carrier on the 44 Mag may be even thinner since it is a larger diameter round. I think that will be the major sticking point if you use the Win. 94 for the conversion. When going from a longer round to a shorter round, you actually add metal instead of taking it away. That is another reason why I went with the Marlin. I have never worked on Winchesters much, but they seem more complicated.
