I want to start by saying I had shoulder surgery back in April  on my right shoulder and until I shot my icon I had not shot anything but a 22 so I was a little worried about shooting the rifle. So the first shot each time I may of jumped a little and also I could of had a better rest. but maybe its what the rifle can do  because the factory paper is about the same but on my shots my first shot was low on each..

looks like you have a tack driver. what type of scope is mounted on the rifle?

Nikon 4.5-14x40 sf Buckmasters scope

I also shot standing and had a 5" group  ..

all is good enough for now next month going to Maine don't need to waist any more ammo when I come back I will shoot off some more ammo with a better rest to see if i can get that flyer to go away.

yeah. i know when i hurt my sholder and didn't have it fixed i can shoot my encore 1inch at 125 yards in my muzzle loader. but its only a 2 shot group. i had to tweak and go through all types of stuff just getting it to shoot right. i bet i was out there about 10 hours at the range.

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl, but this afternoon, I was cruising my local gun emporium, and noticed they had a new Icon in .243 Win on the rack.  So, of course, I had to inspect it.  First thing I noticed, is that thing has GOT to be the heaviest sporter rifle in .243 I have EVER hefted!  I lost all interest in the rifle immediately.  While I am not an ultra light fan, the Icon is far too heavy.  AND priced at $999.99!!!!!  Holy sheep dip!!  For reference, I hefted a 700 CDL SF in 270 Win, which was noticeably lighter, and only $900!! ;D  Then I perused the Kimbers.  Let's see, there was a NIB 84M Classic in .243 Win, much lighter, and a much nicer rifle, IMHO, and marked at $700!!  Then there was the NIB 8400 Classic "Select Grade" in 300WSM at $800,  heavier than the 84M, but a world of difference from the Icon.  See there, the Icon has made me look more seriously at Kimbers, and I don't even LIKE Kimbers!!   ;D ;D ;D  I can't envisage any scenario where an Icon ends up in my battery!  YMMV.   ;D

well if I were you I would find another gun dealer I did not pay that much even after taxes,fbi check ,three boxes of ammo and a set of Leopold rings.
I will commit more on the weight after I walk around the woods a week with it in Maine this year..you might be right on that one.. but I rather wood to plastic any day..

I held a ICON and a IBolt yesterday in the gun shop.  The ICON seemed worth every penny to me.  The price was like $850 in the local shop, which puts it in line with just about every other high quality rifle out there and alot cheaper than the Kimber which I think is it's closest competition.  I will pass on the IBOLT.

Come on fellas, if I can score on a Kimber 84M Classic for $700, you can't tell me the Icon is preferable even if the price was equal!  BTW, the Kimber 84M is a wood stock, it isn't the Montana, with the stainless/synthetic stock, but I've seen Montana's sell for $900.  And I am not even a Kimber fan, but I repeat myself.  However, IMHO, I would rather have the CDL SF for the same dollars as the Icon.  I do not much care for the Euro styling on the Icon, what with the really weird looking bolt handle and the "tactical" scope mounts, but others obviously feel differently.  Yes, I do agree, the Icon did appear to be a quality rifle.  But there is more to a good hunting rifle than mere quality!!!     ;D ;D ;D   I predict the Icon is a flop, and furthermore, I predict it won't even be a collectors piece in the liftetime of anyone reading this rant!!     ;D ;D   IMHO, YMMV, etc.  ;D

And if I could get a Cooper in 6.5-284 for $700 I would buy that over the kimber and ICON as well.  Never said ICON was preferable over the Kimber.  Simply said it was cheaper than the Kimber which is it's closest competition.

the icon will make it if they offer a second bolt and offer it in a syntic stock in stainless. i like the wood and the way it looks. i would hunt with it but i don't think that a kimber is as good. all the kimbers i have held a old handi rifle felt better and the smootness of a remington 700 adl was just as good.  don't know how it shoots but it better be way under sub moa for $1000. the icons around here are going for $799. i am still going to shoot that one next week

buckenbass, which rings did you use? I had some old Weavers laying around, so I put them on to check for the correct height for my scope. There was alot of front to back movement between the milled out bases on the receiver and the crossbolts in the rings. Did you experience this?  Also, I have some pics, but I need some assistance to post them.

Leopold prw steel rings of med height , I like having a wide spread on my rings  .. I used the rear slot and the middle one of the front .

I went shooting today , Let me start by saying I never shoot more than 100yds   ,but the 100 was full and 200-600 was open and the 100 is the only range with benches. with no other choice  I wanted to see if the drop comp. on the Nikon would work. and all I had to use was my backpack wile laying on the ground .. well i am happy this being the second time I ever shot at 200yds and the first ever at 300..I also shot twice at 600 but was out of circles on the drop comp. so had to guss ended up shooting high and not hitting the paper deer but did hit the cardboard ..

I went to the gun show in KC last weekend and at one exhibitor's group of tables had been handling some CZ 550's, which are 8 lb rifles, bare, and really too heavy.  Then I picked up an Icon.   GEEZ OH PETE!!  You coulda beaten an elephant to death with the thing if you were strong enough to lift and swing it!!!  It was HEAVY!!!!  I don't know how they made it so heavy unless there's lead poured in the stock.  I don't think I've ever held a short action rifle with a sporter weight barrel that was that heavy.  Rigged out with mounts, scope, sling and a mag full of ammo, it will weigh around 10 lbs, and that's no exaggeration.

You can count me out......
