Custom 6.5 x 47 set up?
« on: October 02, 2007, 05:08:23 AM »
I am getting this rifle put together in the UK by a very reputable gunsmith it will be used mainly
for long range target shooting but will also service me for a bit of hunting. Question is, the 6.5x47
is quiet a new caliber and I am just checking I have covered all the bases. Any advice greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you have all the parts to make it go bang and off the top of my pointed little head I can't think of anything else you might need to set the rifle up.

The caliber is, as you mentioned, quite new.  Loading data might yet be developmental but I have heard that cartridge is a great long range shooter, as is the 260 Remington and the 6.5 Swede.

I'm not sure what you want to hunt with it but I'm certain it would be adequate for whitetail.  Mikey.

Hi

6.5x47 ? Sounds good for a short light rifle.
How does it compare to the .260 velocity wise?

Surely you are referring to the x47 Lapua, not the 6.5 x 47 on the 222 Rem Mag case.  NICE round, expecting to do one myself sooner than later......about equals a 260 or swede, darned near if not.
