45 colt load shoots low?
« on: June 12, 2003, 08:05:18 AM »
I made a batch of  Cowboy loads using 180 gr.Meister bullets and 5 grs. of Red Dot powder. They print 3 to 4 inches low. This load was used by Larry Cohen C>A>S> champion in the 90,s. All 0f his guns shoot to point of aim. Any suggestions on raising the point of aim in my guns? All of my otherloads shoot to point of aim . My second generation Colt is unaltered,my Uberti had the barrel twisted and the frontsight filed. So my next move is to play with the ammo. I wonder where black powder loads would group?.......Horsefeathers.

The 180 grain bullet is probably the culprit.  180 grains is pretty light for a 45 Colt.  Because the bullet is so light, your aren't getting much, if any recoil at all and the muzzle never rises to your aimpoint.  Try going to a heavier bullet.

Tony D has it. A heavier bullet should bring it up. Or file the front sight down.  KN
