Nosler 200 gr Accubond - 300 Win. Mag.
« on: June 12, 2003, 08:00:40 AM »
As follow up to a previous post on Accubonds. Just finished up new loads for new Nosler 200 gr. Accubond bonded bullet. RL-22 = 2975 fps and <2" at 200 yards consistently so I am satisfied. Should be great elk set-up. Sighted in at 250 yards, it is 3.4" low at 300 so it is a point and shoot set up out to 300 yards. 14.5" low at 400. BC is 0.588 so down range is good. Testing on paper seems to confirm ballistics so far. Testing on elk would be nice as well. Got either/or tags for 1st rifle elk season in Colorado so it may be a good field test.

What load data is used for accubonds?  Is it the same as for ballistic tips?

According to Nosler, use their BT or Partition 200 gr data for the Accubonds. According to Alliant, you can go 4 grains over RL-22 to convert to RL-25 since the RL-25 is not listed in Nosler book. I suggest confirming with them via EMAIL before you try it. I have RL-25 load I am tinkering with since I can get the 200 gr. over 3,000 fps with RL-25 without any signs whatsoever of pressure. Only about 35-50 fps difference between RL-22 and RL-25 but if I can get it to shoot as accurately at 3050 fps versus 2975..why not? Every 50 fps is about 100 ft lbs extra at 300 yards based upon RCBS Load software. No particular reason to max out load but you never know if the extra energy will come into equation when hunting elk. Am really pleased with paper results...now have to see how it does on hair. Hopefully, I will have story to tell in late October.
