Winchester 97 question
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:27:14 AM »
I have been given a pretty nice Winchester 97 Black Diamond Trap shotgun.  I don't know much about the old 97.  What is the button on the ejection port side of the receiver for?
Thanks,
Rex

The button is like an action unlocking device.  If the hammer is placed at half cock when the firing pin is not cocked to fire, you will not be able to open the action without using the button or fully cocking the hammer and firing it.  In any event it is an action release for use when the firing mechanism is in various stages of being cocked/de-cocked.
