BLR MAGAZINE Q?

Hi,
Here's the deal/dilemma 

I just picked up a 1975 BLR in .243 (always wanted one)

The question is will the model 81 BLR mags work in the older guns ?

ie; will a model 81 243/308 magazine work in a pre- model 81 243 BLR

Also what about these new and "improved" scissor type mags ?

The older BLR's use a magazine that is rounded on the bottom and sticks out the bottom of the receiver.
The BLR-81's use a magazine that is more or less flush with the bottom of the receiver.
There are older magazines out there for sale but they are not usually cheep

zermatt7:  The pre 1981 BLRs have a concaved-shaped receiver - if you look at your 1975 model, the receiver is narrower in the middle than it is at both ends where it mates with the stocks.  Thus, the magazine is narrower and deeper, as Hairtrigger explained.  The '81 BLRs have a straight-sided receiver that permitted a wider and, thusly, shallower magazine that is basically flush with the bottom of the receiver.  Consequently, the magazines are not interchangeable between the two models.
