G2 Rimfire issue w/light striking
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:59:11 AM »
I just picked up a 22LR barrel for my G2 and have only had a chance to shoot bulk Federals through it so far. Accuracy is excellent but I notice that I'm getting a fair amount of misfires with this ammo. The firing pin appears to be making consistently good contact with the rim and follow-up attempts usually result in good ignition on the same contact point. Because this ammo usually fires reliably in my other 22s I was wondering if I might indeed be getting light strikes in my G2?

The barrel locks up solidly and well. I know that I should try several other brands of ammo and will. However I'm wondering if there is anything I can do if I find that the problem continues across other brands of ammo. I'd appreciate hearing from others who may have experienced this problem, or who might have some ideas about resolving it.

If you have a hammer extension on this G2 remove it and see if that helps.  It is a common, but not universal, problem.  It has never been an issue with any of mine, but many folks have that problem.

Let us know what you find out.

is it possible that you have several rounds thru the barrel and build up of bullet lube etc is not allowing a complete lockup? maybe a chamber cleaning would help.....just another idea.

Yup, took the hammer extension off right away when I got back from the range. This barrel has the Match chamber and it is clean and the lockup is tight. I'll try to get out to the range next weekend and see how it does again without the extension and with several other types of ammo.
