Action Length For Custom
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:19:02 AM »
I am looking to build a custom rifle and have a few rifles I am trying to decide if they are going to work.

I am looking for a 7 mm STW or 8mm rem mag, or some other full length cartridge.

I have a BRNO zkk in 458 win mag or I may buy a savage action for this project. Will either of these work for a full length cartridge?

Thanks

Jonas

Honay:  My older Lyman manual shows the case length of the 458 and the 7mm mag to be the same, 2.5".  It also shows the length of the col to be the same, 3.3".  They are both belted magnums and even take the same size shellholder, so it looks like the BRNO might be just the ticket for a rebarrel.  HTH.  Mikey.

Honay,

The max OAL for the 458 Win Mag is 3.340".  The max OAL for the 7mm STW or the 8mm Rem Mag is 3.600".  I think you will have to see if the magazine box is long enough for the longer cartridge and also if the action is long enough.

Good luck,
Headache

Honay - dang it, I read it wrong.  I gave you the col for the 7mm rem Mag, not the STW.  Many sorry.  Mikey.
