I have a Savage 110 FLP Tactical in this chamber. I was wondering if I could get good accuracy (this rifle is reported to shoot 1/2 MOA or better) with any of these three Sierra bullets: 117 gr SPBT, 90 gr HPBT, and 120 gr HPBT. I have IMR-4350 and IMR-4831 to work with. Also, can someone tell me if hollow points are truly more accurate than spitzers? Do any other bullets work well in this setup? What about polymer tipped bullets, are they more accurate than regular ones?

I just finished a reply to your other post, but I'll put in two cents here too. There is no real answer to yor question, It's just a matter of what your particular gun likes. I have several 22-250s and 223s that all take a different load. What one gun likes the other does not. It will probably take some trial and error to come up with the best load for yours. I can say that the load I use came sraight from the ballistics people at Sierra. I told them what I wanted to use it for and they gave me several loads to try. His top recomended load worked so well that I never even tested the others. I didn't think I could improve much over one hole groups at 100 meters. As for you'r bullet selection, What are you going to shoot with it? If your just target shooting I recomend the Sierra 100gr spitzer boat tail. It has a better BC than any of their other 25 cal bullets. Hope this helps. KN

yeah I realize each gun shoots differently, even those of the same model, but I just wanted a nudge in the right direction.

KN has great advice. I have had great luck with my 25/06 for IMR 4831. As for the Hollow point being more accurate it is the manufacturing process that make the target bullets a hollow point. That is why you see those used. The base are flater and machine different than standard. I don't undertand the whole process but that is why (that is also why Ballistic Tip, etc are so accurate) I thing it is a consistance thing too. I would look at different bullets if loading for hunting.

I just finished two years of developing loads for my .25-06. Mine is a Ruger M77 Mk II.

Best results that I have had are with Hornady and Speer bullets, using Reloader 22 and Winchester Large Rifle Primers and Federal 210's.

I would suggest you look at Hornady's new reloading manual, and Speer's latest.

Polymer tipped by Hornady (SST) and flat-based seem to give the best result. Hint: Use a bonded bullet for 100 gr or lower. Typical velocities are 3200 fps +. You want something that isn't going to separate from the jacket or fragment. Speer's Hot-Cor flat base 100 gr. in .257 is the most economical of these.

Good luck. This is a sweetheart caliber if you can find the "sweet spot" for your gun.

still have the best luck in mine with the old siera 117 flat base spitzter.

IMR-4350 is as good a bet as there is for .25-06 accuracy loads. I'd try every bullet I had on hand in the 115 to 120 grain range over 45.0 grains. When I had a bullet picked, I'd work up a bit and tune the load.

I checked in my records and I have had good luck with Reloader 22 also beside IMR 4831 and the other good bullet was the 117 gra Hornady BT
