Hello fellow gun nuts-I'm brand new to this site, but thought I'd pass on some personal experience that I've recently had with a brand new PT1911. I've posted this info. on another forum, but thought it was important that as many as possible should be aware of the problem that I have experienced. Before I start, let me say that I've probably owned at least 15 1911-style .45's over the last 40 years, with over 100, 000 .45 rounds downrange. After reading all the hype printed in the different gun mags about the Taurus PT1911, I decided I'd go buy one-paid $600+tax. It has all the 'whistles and bells' as advertised. Took it to the range with 150 rounds of WWB 230gn FMJ's for an initial break-in session. Weapon was accurate, functioned fine, and my initial impression was that it was a 'good buy'. Took it home, field-stripped it for a good cleaning and lube. When I slid the slide off the frame, the ejector fell out onto the table- the front leg of the ejector had sheared off and was stuck in the frame hole. After pushing out the roll pin that secures the front leg to the frame, I soon realized that the leg wasn't coming out of the frame. Now guys this is a MIM-type of part-injection molded out of powdered metal (translate that to mean no machining necessary, thus saving labor and machining costs.) Well, i returned the pistol to my dealer, and he returned it to Taurus. I have NEVER before had an ejector shear off any 1911 pistol. After about 6 weeks, I picked up a new PT1911 that Taurus sent back for exchange of the pistol that had been returned. Like that Taurus warranty !!! However, since a broken ejector could cost me my life in a gun fight (I'm a veteran law enforcement deputy sheriff), I'm either going to replace the ejector with a machined ejector or trade this PT1911 off. Wondering if any of of guys have heard of or experienced this problem. Might be a good range gun, but I've got my doubts about carrying it for serious social confrontations. Your comments please....
