4506 Recoil Spring

Hi,
    I just received a new recoil spring from Midway for my 4506 and the spring is almost 2" longer than the original,but the distance between the coils are wider. I put the new spring in the gun and it cycles ok by hand haven't shot it yet. The bag the spring came in is marked correctly? I don't know, any ideas or has anyone run into this before??? Thanks!

New recoil springs are normally a bit longer than used ones that have compressed some due to a lot of use. Your new spring should be just fine. It is a good idea to change the spring every few thousand rounds or so. I prefer to do so at the 2000 round mark. As inexpensive as they are, I consider it cheap insurance against needlessly battering the frame.

                  Thanks for the info, I was talking to guys over on the S&W site and they said the same thing. The spring in there was probably original from the early 90's! Thanks again!
