BLR, Folding Hammer folds before striking firing pin
« on: September 06, 2007, 02:51:08 PM »
On my new-old BLR (1992) model, a couple of attempts to pull the trigger resulted in the folding hammer folding before it hits the firing pin.  I achieved better strikes when I gripped the lever tighter.

Is this a common occurrence?  Or do I have some parts cleaning/replacing to do?

Empty the rifle, then point it in a safe direction.

With your thumb restraining the hammer, pull and hold the trigger rearward. Slowly let the hammer fall. Are there any rough spots? Repeat with and without holding the lever tightly closed.

I'll bet something is resisting the hammer fall, and that causes the top to fold over.
