forum observations
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:34:08 AM »
I have been browsing here for some time, and I have noticed that unlike some other forums that I have seen or have participated in, you guys are some of the most knowledgeable, considerate and helpful forums that I have seen. Unfortunately, some forums become cliquish and seem to be inconvenienced by newbies and folks looking for info. You guys run a class act! I have learned more from this forum than any other around.

Like most of my generation, I was introduced to this great line of firearms when my dad bought my first shotgun in 20 GA for my 13th birthday. He liked the hammer, single shot and price! (that was in 1973) Boy, did I learn marksmanship as well. That shotgun has taken more quail, squirrels, rabbits, doves and other game than any other gun I own. Currently I have Handi's in 30/06, 45/70, and just have had one of the new 44 mag barrels put on one of my receivers. I also have 3 12 GA's and a .410 and that 20 GA. I have a 1941 12 Ga that is one of the tightest lock-ups I own. I amazed at that shotgun.

I just wanted to introduce myself, compliment you guys on the forum, and keep up the good work...I am Hal, I am in North Georgia, a retired fire & explosion investigator...I still work some as an investigator and expert witness and security consultant. My interests are in all types of firearms, and I especially love the NEF/H&R line. Thanks for your time, and thanks for the great forum...looking forward to participating; Hal

Welcome Hal
I've not been here very long but can agree with your comments about the fine folks here. And the information available here, concerning H&R / NEF, at the click of a mouse or simply asking a question, is amazing.

It's good to see another GA boy on the board.  I, too, live in N. GA, in the Woodstock area.  I am trying to head up to the outdoor range in Resaca before too long.  Reply or send a PM if you are interested in meeting up to sight in guns.  Between work, school, and two boys in baseball, I'm not sure on a date yet.

GBO is a large site...that has a plethora of different topics you should feel free to join in and participate on...

Welcome to the family and enjoy the fellowship.  Some of these fine folks can even use the big words and even explain them if you don't understand, just ask.  Hey Mac11700, does that mean "a whole lot" of different topics?   ;D

Continue to browse around and you'll find things hidden in other areas as well.  I have come to know a good group of people here and enjoy being a part of the community.

Thank you GB (Graybeard) for being tough on us and keeping us in line.  And for providing the BEST and MOST informative Site online.

Welcome Eaglewatch.  First impressions are often wrong as you know. But in this case you are right on!!! The level of gun knowledge on this forum draws me back again and again for information and interesting discussions on firearms. And I have never been disappointed with the great responses and friendly atmosphere. Stay tuned in and join in the discussion when you feel like it.

Hal,

Welcome to the board. When I was a young boy I lived in Buford, Ga in 74-75 time frame, dad was doing the blasting for MARTA. They run a tight ship around here and they are all good people.

Yes...that is what I meant...but...it to some of our new members...it could also mean an over abundance as well...especially since we have so many good things being discussed in a great number of sections...It can be a little over whelming to some...so...the word seemed appropriate to me...One thing for certain...GBO is often imitated...but never duplicated... :D :D :D

Welcome Hal.

Hate to say  it, but, I retired at 40, way  back in 1985.

Just barely got to making decent money  with my own business. Never had a decent paying job til that.
Didn't get to enjoy it though. Too busy running the business.

Then on a delivery, ruptured three lumbars. End of that deal!!!

Do hope you got out in good health and not on a medical.

Gosh, don't know whether to admit it or not, but, I've BEEN to N Ga many times. Mostly to Rome.
Hauled many a load from GE.

Wish you well for a long happy retirement.  (you too GB!!!)

Welcome to the best outdoor forum. You are right, it does not matter what level you are on you are welcome. Everyone has something to learn and contribute. No one person knows it all, but collectively we know a lot and are willing to share.  ;D

Thanks for the hospitality guys!! Unfortunately My Crown Vic and I were run over by a truck on I-85 at work, so I did leave with a medical retirement....and back surgery. It wasn't long until my lovely wife figured out that I needed to be doing something, so I started an Investigation/Executive Security/Consulting firm. So, as you business owners  know, I probably work more than ever; but it's at my pace, MY business!

Welcome Hal.

Quick said it right.  We all can get out of line on occasion, but the standards GB holds us to makes it a more enjoyable site for all.  Mind you, opinions are freely given, but most of the time it's well intentioned, even if we don't sugar coat it.

It's good to have places like this to "talk".

Maybe if you were as kind, sweet, generous, helpful and good looking as me your wife would want you around all the time and let you retire.  ;D

Oh and did I mention modest?  ::)
