Need help with dakota 4x4 2002
« on: September 02, 2007, 04:21:02 PM »
For the last year my 4 wheel drive has acted up everytime it rained or snowed.  If it got wet it would show nothing on the three way switch and the check 4x4 would come on.  If I shut the engine off and move the switch to 4 wheel high I could then switch it back to 2 wheel drive.  With our last rain storm it refuses to change at all.

I am thinking it is a short in a wire probably from coating missing, but know nothing about 4x4 systems. If anyone can point me in a general direction as money is to tight to take to shop I would appreciate it

Find where the plug goes into the transfer motor that activates the switching..... remove and apply dielectric grease.  It sounds like it is no longer sealed up.
