Went to the range today...
« on: August 31, 2007, 02:08:38 PM »
well, Squirrel season opens here on the first. I have been trying to get to the range and sight my 22 & 17M2 handis for two weeks. today I found the time...

I am a little depressed with the 22.... Here is the best it did @ 50 yards:

 Its better at 25:

I tried about five different brands of ammo...nothing really stood out.

I have a 2X7 scope on this as well.

The 17M2 is a tack driver as it always has been.... Easily in a dime at 50 with out really trying. This is the same receiver& for-end for both barrels.

I also got to shoot a Savage 24 I picked up last year. That shot better than the Handi and its got TINY open sites!!!

The three shots to the left where first shots. I moved the site, shot two more then settled on the group just slightly to the right. Not to bad for 40+ YR old eyes and TINY open sites!!! The two larger holes are 2.78" RWS slugs from the 410 barrel, using the same 22 sites holding dead center.

Lastly I shot my CZ Special Deluxe 22 with peep sites. This thing is down right amazing!!  I had some fun with the 410 empties at 25yrds... Here is a little video clip.

Guess the Savage gets the nod for Saturday morning!!

It is our biggest for this boat.  50 inches and 55 lbs.

We have had a really good year.

Tim,
This was the first fish of the night. Cought on the first drift, so the sun had just set. It was a beautiful night to say the least.

Here is a video of the catch!!

Nice video, and kudos to the netter too, a good netter is good to have on board, he can make or break the event, specially with a big fish. ;)

thanks,

Tim

I'll tell him Tim!! That's my pop!!!  ;D  My Buddie is the one who actually caught the fish, so you guessed it...That leaves me as the camera guy!!

But I catch my share too!! Here is me with one I caught last week. It was 41/41 inches if remember correctly. Sorry for the poor quality, it was a quick unplanned trip and I didn't have a good camera. Just my cell camera.

We usually go out about 18:00 ish and return when ever we get the urge. That night I think we finished about 01:00hrs. We have gone all night...but we ain't getting any younger and doing that takes you out for the next couple days.  ::)

That's for sure, I used to fish sturgeon all night when it was legal here on the Columbia, even on a fishless night, I was burnt out for the next day or two and that was when I was a lot younger, it's probably a good thing it's no longer allowed, or I'd have killed myself by now!! ::) Kudos to the cameraman too, great video!! ;D

CW,
Congrats on the awesome striper! Striper fishing is one of my passions. Unfortunately we don't have them that big where I live.
(Southern Section Of The Peoples Republik Of Kalifornia)  Once in a blue moon a lucky angler catches a 25 pounder in the surf
on the beaches near where I live. I have to fish for stripers in freshwater. It's not all that bad though. Just curious. What part
of the country did you catch that monster? My guess would be the Northeast.
