Yes...you could say the .222 shoots good! For several decades it was "the" cartridge of most benchrest shooters...sub quarter-inch groups from speciality rifles are far from unheard of. Certainly an excellent varmint cartridge within it range limitations (225 yards +-). I think you would enjoy shooting "the deuce" a lot!

It is probably the best over all of the 22 centerfires with that 250 yard range, it is very hard to find better. I have been waiting on  CVA to get their model#cr 4410 but still not yet. The CZ would probably be a good choice and I think Remington still makes it in a model # 799 not real sure on that one. There is no question about the accuracy of Rem. 222. With it being only slightly less powerful then a 223 you can't go wrong.   Good Luck     Jack

Hello Gray Fox,

A 222 Remington is a great choice and yes, it is deadly accurate.  Before the 223 Remington was introduced, the 222 was the darling of all bench rest shooteers and many other shooters.

CZ does make several of their Model 527 rifles in 222 Remington.   They also, chamber in the more popular 223 Remington Caliber.
Check this out: http://www.cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=14

The URL above takes you to the CZUSA website and a varmint style rifle in 223.  It has a laminate stock and a single set trigger.

CZ or Remington?  I have had several Remingtons and I still have one in 223.  I only wish I had one in a CZ.  My third CZ is waiting for me in the gun shop.  I have 8 more days and 10 hours before I can pick it up.  I have 3 CZs now.  There are 4 more in my immediate family.   I already have 5 223 Remington Rifles, so I can't quite justify one in CZ, but I justified the one coming in 22 Long Rifle.

The 223 will do everything that the 222 Rem will do and a little bit more.  The availability of loaded ammo and cartridge cases for reloader is a heads up thought to.  I reload all of my cartridges and the 223 is at the top of the list.

If there wasn't a 223, I'd opt for the 222 or the 222 Remington Magnum, both of which have faded from the scene.  I had a 222 Remington Mag and it was a tack driver too.  I wore out the barrel and traded the action off.

I would vote for a CZ in 223 Remington.   Of course, I don't have a vote, but I can suggest it.

I picked up a rare Ruger 77 in 222 Rare only because they have never been cataloged in the USA but they are still very popular in the UK. I have been working on different loads for it trying to tighten them up some and still think it can do better I can throw 2 shots at a 100 and almost overlap them and then on the third get a flyer, maybe its just me but over all I love it. I have a CZ in 17HMR and man what a shooter !! I killed a ground hog at 198 yards the other day with it, I guess what I,m trying to say is buy the CZ in 222 and dont look back, you ll love it !!!!!!!
