model 67 stainless 4in

 hey guy , girlfriend picked up by herself a sweet mod67 stainless, 4in 38spl, as adjustable sights and a great trigger  measured at2lbs so she likes it, one question since they run a leaf spring in these  is there a way to lightin up the hammer  so when she pulls it back its  easier , for a great trigger the hammer is quite stiff for her?? any suggestions?

Lightening the trigger pull on a S&W K frame involves grinding and polishing the mainspring to a narrower profile, and shortening the rebound slide (trigger return spring) spring.  If you are not experienced with the procedure, it should be done by an experienced gunsmith.  Loosening the mainspring tension screw is NOT the correct procedure for lightening the trigger/hammer pull.

That spring also drives the hammer forward. Get it too light and it becomes unreliable in ignition. If the gun is to be used for self defense make darn sure it's not too light. I have a S&W 66 that someone worked on before I owned it and it is only barely reliable. I'd not really trust it as a self defense gun without a new spring but since it's really not an SD gun it's not that big a deal to me.

I have a s&w model 67 that my dad bought me. I love it! It has a sweet trigger. adjustable sights, and is very accurate. I just put a set of elk stag grips on it. look's sharp, shoot's great.
  I  bought a model 67 that was formerly a police gun and it was polished to hide all the scuff's and scratches. it was a beautifull gun. I gave it to my first wife (while we were married) I hope she gives it to our 19 year old son some day. I remember it being a shooter as well.

shanner like was said if you want a lighter da pull on a smith your going to have to compromise. You are going to be about locked into using reloads with federal primers and right now id have to tell you good luck finding federal small pistol primers. I know losening the spring screw isnt the proper way to do it but id be skeptical about doing any permenatnt changes to the gun until i knew i had a future source for fed primers. Your best bet right now is to take it apart and polish any surfaces that ride steel to steel that alone will do alot for your double action pull especially in a stainless gun as they tend to be a little rougher.
