Shotgun Barrel length

    I have a Mossberg 5500 MkII.  I shoot it very well but the gun does have a draw back, you have to change the barrel for magnum and non magnum rounds.  I only had the 26" non magnum barrel but found a good deal on a 24" cammo barrel.  I plan on using it as a back up duck gun.  It swings very well with the 24" barrel but I'm woundering how barrel lengt effects the performance.  I'm shooting steel and non lead shot and wounder if a different choke (I use a modified now) make up for any lack of performance the shorter barrel may cause.

I basically won't let a gun with a 24" barrel in the blind.  It's simply too easy to ring somebodies ears with the short barrels, and there is no advantage.  It doesn't greatly affect accuracy, but it does greatly affect the comfort of those around you.  26" should be considered the waterfowling minimum and 28" is better.
