Cooper model 52
« on: August 19, 2007, 11:20:44 AM »
Hello, I am in the market for a Cooper model 52.  I am trying to narrow down the caliber at the moment.  I have got it down to 270, 280, or 30-06.  So far, I am leaning hard towards the 30-06.  I already own two 270s and two 30-06s, but I want a really accurate '06.  Does anyone have any info about the performance of a Cooper model 52?  Thank you.

No info on Cooper.

I have a question as to why ANOTHER 30-06?  If you just want a more accurate 30-06 could you not go custom from one you already own?  If you already had a 30-06 in a 700 action you would have a great start to a custom rifle that would shoot as good if not better.

Just my 2 cents.

Revchopp, I also could be weak for a Cooper 52.  This company is a full blowen custom shop which sold to the bench rest crowd.  As far as caliber, if you reload I would either get a .280 or .270.  Also you may want to consider selling one of your .270's if that is your choice, hard to do!  I would suggest you make 2 different decisions.  First, get what you really want and need, then decide if you have too many of one caliber.  A .280 with reloads taylored to it can be just a little short of a 7mm mag.  and very acurate.  Maybe you could sell one of the .270's to help to pay for some premium glass to fit the new rifle.  These are just suggestions, the only way to go is what feels right to you.

Go to any of the auction sites and see a picture of the test target.  Every one that I have seen shows the bullets either touching or almost in the same hole.  That's pretty darn accurate.  Now, Coopers ARE expensive, but they ARE very well made and accurate guns.
