Hogue overmolded vs the others?
« on: August 14, 2007, 01:24:17 AM »
I've got a piller bedded Hogue overmolded stock on my Howa. Looking at buying either another Howa with a Hogue piller bedded or a Remington that I will purchase a better aftermarket stock for. How does the Hogue stand up to the other brands of synthetic stocks? Is the full length aluminum bedded Hogue really better than the piller bedded variety? What about Bell and Carlson? How does the Hogue stand up to them? What say all of you?

Well to answer your first question, the Hogue is a good stock. Not a great stock like a McMillan but still a very good stock.I personally like the feel of the Hogue's,they dont seem to get slick when they are wet, still very rubbery. They dont seem to take cuts and scrapes as well as the harder synthetic stocks, but that doesnt really bother me.

Your second question about pillar bedding compared to the full length bedding, choose the full length if you can. They are more rugged and will defintely help strengthen the stock from flexing when shooting.

Hope this helps-Tim

The hogue is a very tough stock but heavy.  It is much heavier than most of the other synthetic stocks.  I'm also not really that impressed with the design for a hunting rifle but it would make a dandy tactical or target stock.
