T3 Lite SS 6.5x55
« on: August 11, 2007, 01:38:20 AM »
I know these are available, just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with them?  Accuracy, long throats, etc.  Seems to me I read somewhere that this caliber rifle combination did have long throats but being a mid-length cartridge I could set the bullets out further without a problem with fitting in long action magazine.  T

This may apply to the T3 Hunter series since the 6.5x55 is available wood/blue.  I don't really care for the T3 wood stocks however.  T

The long throat problem seems to be limited to the WSM cartridges, not the standard cartridges, and not even the regular magnum cartridges.

An article was once written that compared a Tikka T3 and a Savage, both in .270WSM.  The Savage's velocities were within the manufacturer's expected and stated muzzle velocities.  However, the Tikka's velocities were about 200 fps slower.  Similar results have been posted by some of our members that had WSMs, and they were very upset.  However, I have not heard of any such problems with loss of velocity due to long throats in non-WSM cartridges, so you should be just fine.

One of our members has a Tikka T3 in 6.5x-55 and, if I recall correctly, the velocities were where they should be, and it was very accurate.  I can't make any guarantees, but from what I have heard from our members, you should be fine.

I have the hunter 6.5.Without a doubt a tack driver with ANYTHING.I don't know why I bother to reload for this as you can but cheap ammo and shoot MOA.The throat doesn't lend any problems,I seat mine out as far as they will fit in the mag and cycle.I have some Barns TSX to try but haven't had a chance to load any up.They claim you should seat them almost touching which IS possible.I sold my  stonypoint guage after I had all the readings I needed, now I wish I kept it.The120 Nosler BT seemed to work very good.I hunt with 140gr Speer Grand slams

I have two original Swedes, a Kimber sporter and an Encore in 6.5 x 55.  They all have exceptionally long throats but are super accurate.  I am thinking of selling a couple of the Swedes and buying a Tikka so I can up the pressure on my reloads. I am not worried about a long throat being a hindrance to accuracy in this caliber.
