Browning 1886 tigger pull?
« on: June 04, 2003, 05:11:15 AM »
:? Anyone know how to lighten the trigger pull on a Browning 1886?  Right now it is about 6 pounds.  Maybe if there is a site that shows how to do it, I would appreciate a link.  Thanks for any input or suggestions.

Hammerman,

If you disassemble the Browning 1886 (I have the Winchester version and the Browning 71) I believe that you will find that it has a separate sear/trigger mechanism, ala 71.  The sear can be removed and the engagement surface needs to be polished with a stone and crocus cloth with a hard backing to insure that the surface remains flat and with the same angle.  Additionally, the engagement surface should be polished, also insuring the angle remain the same, or straightened to a true 90 degrees.  The trigger sping is sufficiently light to produce a decent 3 - 4 lb trigger pull with proper work.  The hammer spring could be reduced be substituting a new spring, but I am unaware of the poundage of the original, so can not suggest such for a lighter one.  Might want to check with Wolff if you intend to go that far.

Hope this helps.

:D Thanks for the reply dclark.  I think I could do the things you suggested, but who is Wolff?

Wolff Springs.  You can find them on the net or in Brownell's.  Net is more complete.  I just searched for them and came up easily.
