Hello Popplecop
The best reference Material on Dating S&W's is a book Entitle "The Standard Catalog of S&W" By Jim Supica & Richard Nahas. It has Three editions and the current one is best for coverage of more Modern revolvers and newer more current Information of many of the Older Ones. I have found it to be about the best out there, and another fine Book of reference is Roy Jinks's Book wriiten back in 1976 Era called The History of S&W. Mr Jink's Book can be found used on the Internet and the best source for price on the New Third edition of The Standard Catalog of S&W is Overstock.com. These Prove to Be great books and should get you any Information you may need on any S&W. To know exactly when any S&W was shipped from the factory, the Only sure way is to apply for a factory Letter on it, as many ship later than their serial numbers show do to consumer demad and sales.I have all these Books mentioned and if you P.M. me a serial number leaving off the last two digits with an X in the Numbers place for privacy of your serial number's, I would be happy to look them up for you. I hope this Help's, Hammerdown
