I want to buy a new hunting rifle soon.  I have been lurking over in the Tikka forum for awhile.  I think I want a 7MM-08 or possibly a 308 caliber gun.  I have recently been reading about the 7600 pump gun on this forum and others.  I have seen where Remington makes a run of 7MM-08's for some distributors.  This would be my first prefarence if available.

I have a couple of questions regarding the 7600.  I'm left handed to start with, which is why I'm considering the 7600 as opposed to a left bolt rifle.  If I get a bolt gun I will get a right handed one since it is the only type I have experience with.  I'm 54 and have only shot right handed rifles.  I just think I might could cycle the pump gun a little faster.  I will be whitetail hunting in NW Fla and most shots would probably be 100 yds, at most 200.  I have some wild hogs in my food plot and would also like to exterminate some of them.

I'm curious as to a scope setup on the pump gun.  I think I want a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40.  What would be a good scope ring setup for this scope or any other sugestions?  Also can you easily put a sling on the gun?  I don't think they come from the factory with a sling mount.

If anyone has any pictures of their pump rifles I would like to see how they are rigged out.

I know a few southpaw's and the 7600 is there gun of choice I own a 35 whelen and its a very accurate rifle  good luck

I'm a righty who shoots lefty because of a left master eye. I have been shooting this way for 40 years. I never like bolt actions, right or left hand and even levers don't feel right. But the Remington 870 pump shotgun always felt great. I shot auto's for thirty years but in the past five years a switched to the 7600. I have the 35 Remington 18" carbine, 35 Whelen rifle and I traded a 25-06 for a 257 Roberts. All three have Nikon scopes. The Whelen and Roberts have the 3X9 and the carbine a 2X7. All shoot great. Killed a eight pointer with the carbine and a spike with the Whelen. MIKE.

Bought a new 7600 in 308 a couple of years ago.  It has the cheap plastic stock but, this one really shoots great.  It will hold its own with bolt action hunting rifles all day long.  MOA accuracy consistently with my handloads.  Only factory ammo I have shot in it is Rem. 150gr and it groups these at 1.25 three shot groups.

The place that gets the Remington 7600 special runs is Grices gun shop in Clearfield PA.  Go to the Remington web site and they mention the runs and how to contact grices.  Or do a search and Grices has a web site.  good luck

IMO the best way to mount sling swivels on a 7600 is the barrel band type instead of the fore end type. The Buckmaster is a decent scope. I have a 7600 7mm-08. It was made in a special run for Grice. It's a dandy.You can have the safety reversed for your left handed use. Talley lightweight rings worked out nice on my 7600. I removed the sights since I don't have quick release rings.

I shoot lefty too.  I love my 760 in .30-06.  It's pretty accurate.  I can get 1" groups at 100 yds.  I still want a Browning 7mm mag lefty bolt for my trips out west.

Whatever scope you choose, get the lowest rings/base you can find.  The pump handles and comes up best with a low-mounted scope.  My 1987-vintage M7600 in .338-06 has a 3x9 Burris in low Weaver rings on a Weaver base.  The objective lens clears the barrel by about 0.01" - it is low and the rifle handles great!  I use an Uncle Mikes barrel band sling mount.  I used it when I lived in Alaska and it was great for deer to goats to moose.  Carried it in the truck cab rack below my M870/12ga.

I use a Leupold Vari-X III 1.5 - 5X scope on my 7600 with low rings. Works great! It's the top one in the picture below. I also have my 870 set up very similar; Leupold Vari-X II, 1 - 4X

Nice lookin' hardware DMF  ... seems I've seen them before.   ;)
