NIKON Pro Staff scope....

I am a LEUPOLD scope guy thru and thru....BUT I have run across a "DEAL" that's hard to turn down on a brand new NIKON Pro Staff 4X rim-fire scope.

I have a 22LR handi that needs a scope and would like to know if any of you guys have any experience with this scope.
 I have two other Leupold's on other 22's that I COULD move...but then I would need a scope for that rifle......viscous circle.

 I do have one NIKON and I do like it. It is a Monarch. So its not really fair to compare Nikon's bottom line scope to its top...

well since your a leupold man just compare it to leupold vx1 or riflemen they are basically the same scope. it gets 90% light trasmition which is good compared to the vx1s 87%. how cheap is this "good deal"? you can get a new 3-9x40 for $130

The scope is nice enough.... It has a cheap scope look... I mean when you look thru it, the image dosent extend to the outer edges as it does on my Leupolds. I am sure it will work perfectly and it was half the price of a VXII.

One other scope I recently tried and am VERY impressed with is a Pentax Gameseeker 4X. The image extendes fully to the outer edge. Finish and turrets all work beautifully. Also even cheaper, by 10 bucks anyhow. (Its not a varible though)

I wont say I wouldnt buy another Nikon Pro staff...but I will say I would buy a Pentax first!!

yes i will agree with you about pentax they are cheaper and made in the usa. i have a pair of there binos and they are crisp and clear just as good as my buckmasters and leupold scopes.

I think you'll learn the Gameseeker is made in PRC or maybe the Philippines. In the past, Burris has been the mfr of Pentax scopes, even their Full Field II line isn't made in the US any more, but in the Philippines.

strange i saw one and it said made in the usa. it was last week maybe it was a old model or a new model made by someone else. it was like a vx2.

I'm going to Sportsmans Warehouse today, I'll find out where the Gameseeker is made IF they're marked, the current Burris Full Field II isn't marked, the older ones were marked made in the the USA, I have 3, only one is marked. If the Gameseeker was made in the US, you can bet they'd not be as inexpensive as they are, they'd be priced with Leupolds. To my knowledge, the ONLY us made scopes are Leupolds now, and possibly Burris' high end scopes, I think all the better made scopes are made in Japan,  but they aren't inexpensive, either. :'( And an FYI, even some Leupold binoculars are made overseas. ;)

  I'm one who thinks this just sucks.  I bought a Burris Fullfield II and thought it was made in America.  I knew the better models say they were "Made In U.S.A." on Burris' website but when I got this FFII from the seller, it said, "Made in Phillipines" just as Tim said. I didn't know ANYTHING Leupold made was made overseas.  I'm sick to death of everything I see being made somewhere else.  Someone handed me an American flag magnet the other day.  I turned it over and guess what?  Yep, made in China.  I wanted to puke. 
  There is a gun dealer with whom I do business often and he swears by the Pentax scopes, if that helps any. I also had one dealer tell me the Nikon Pro Staff 3x9 reticles sometimes shoot loose.  When I look through the Nikon, it sure does looks crisp, though.

well i won't be buy any Pentax and Leupold binos anymore. ill buy Nikon, and ziess. zeiss tubes are made in the USA and are put together in Europe. thanks for the info tim

Just got back from SW, looked at the 3-9x40 Gameseeker, it is very clear and the view isn't all that bad compared to other inexpensive scopes, the large black ring around the view isn't as thick as some are. But it was marked "China" on the bottom of the turret saddle. The worst thing about it tho is the ocular bell and power ring are huge, wouldn't be very H&R friendly for hammer clearance. Other than that, it looks like an optical bargain if they hold up well.

As for the Prostaff being durable, I have one on my 500S&W Handi, shooting some stout loads to include 700gr cast at over 1400fps, the recoil is near that of the 375H&H, still good to go.

I don't worry too much about where a scope is made in this age of global economy, Muellers are a good example, they're very well made and have an outstanding warranty and customer service if you ever to need to use it. Their optics are very hard to beat for the same money.

At least some, if not all, Leupold Wind River binos/range finders are currently made in China.

are their upper end optics still made in the usa? i liked the tru glow scope and it was nicer than the newer buriss full feild 2 the only down side it was made in china. i just wonder if they will hold up to recoil

From the discussion at the Optics talk link, the more expensive Burris and Pentax(Lightseeker) scopes are still made in the US using Japan sourced glass, similar to what Mueller does, only they're assembled in China instead of here.

for the money i would rather have the monarch. or a leupold. i might still get the tru glow scope for a .22
