The versa-Pack vs Sportster issue..
« on: July 25, 2007, 12:27:24 PM »
   Much has been said about the difference in weight between the Versa-Pack and the Sportster in .22 LR

   I did replace the youth stock with the adult Monte Carlo..so they match there, and..
  Having both in 20" standard weight barrel with same stocks..they are both the same , except for the scopes.
 Both scopes are 2.5X ..
  The Sportster has a Bushnell and the Versa-Pack has a Simmons shotgun type. No noticeable weight difference between the scopes.

  I got an old scale my barn attic..the photos tell the rest

   Question for our Handiholics;

             Something i didn't really notice until I posted these pics.....

        If you look closely at both pics, you will notice a difference between the two receivers. The Versa-Pack has a large pin head directly over the front attachment of the trigger guard, while the Sportster has no such corresponding item. Both have a small pin head there..which goes clear through and looks the same on the off side.
     The heavy pin on the Versa-Pack does not go clear through...looking inside, the hole is drilled only through the right hand wall of the receiver and the pin doesn't even fill the complete hole. The shank of the pin can't be much more than 3/16" long...just appears to be a "hole filler".

  Do I have a "mis-manufacture"..or do you suppose there is a different process or plan for the Versa-Pack ?

  Correction: Looking at the H&R/NEF website, I see that some of the rifles have this extra item and some don't..seems not related to caliber involved, or even model..the Versa-Pack pictured in their catalog DOESN'T have the extra pin head...

       ???

Maybe that extra pin is just a filler in place of the optional selective fire lever   ;)

I'll have to look at my recievers and see if they have it and also see if it corelates to a particular year.

That's the plug for the view port used to inspect latch engagement during barrel fitting, it's been discussed several times in the Centerfire forum, they started doing that in 2006 production.
