CZ 527---What calibers?
« on: July 10, 2007, 09:33:59 AM »
I am not real familiar with CZ rifles, but I was in Gander Mountain the other day and picked up a short carbine rifle in 7.62x39 cal. It had an 18.5 in. barrel and I think it was a 527. I really liked the gun and was wandering if it came in larger calibers suitable for whitetails. I'm not at all familiar with the 7.62x39 cal. but would think it may be a little light for deer. What calibers does this rifle come in? Thanks in advance for your responses.

The 7.62x39 is the largest caliber you can buy a 527 in, I would have no worries whatsoever using it on deer, With the wolf 154grn Sp's the 7.62x39 will match any 30-30 in terms of killing power inside 75 yds and beat the 30-30 by a wide margin at ranges beyond that

And just as an FYI...if you like the 527 , you'll like the 550.....I know that model offers the more common "deer" calibers.......22-250, 243, 6.5x 55, 9.3 x 62, 270, 308, 30.06,....I have a 527 in a .204 and it is incredible to shoot...when I was looking in 06 the largest caliber offered in CZ 527 was , as Krochus say, that 7.62 X 39 in a carbine rife...

YMMV, since the 550's bigger & heavier.

The M-550  is an improved M-98 Mauser, while the M-527 is an improved Mini-Mauser.

BTW - If anyone objects to the M-527's protruding magazine (I did), it can be altered to a flush magazine, for a much different, modern American look. I had mine done a few years ago, and couldn't be happier.
Issue magazines will still fit, after the alteration.

Alright  Boys  my  527 7.62x39 is in the mail. Is there any  heads up  advice, ammo choices, scope mounts, anything you  can  think of. That will help me get started in  the right direction? Thanks! ;D

Krylon Spraypaint to cover the ugly Retro "Wood" look
WARNE RINGS !
123 grain V-Max with 24 grains of IMR4198
Keep a Yugo AK in sight of it to keep it in line and afraid to disappoint you.

What he said except lose the krylon and replace the IMR4198 with AA1680

As far as ammo you need only look for 154grn WOLF, avoid domestic made 7.62x39 it all shoots like crap.

And yes it uses the correct bullet diameter

Could not afford the Yugo or the black paint. But did  get  the Warne Qd rings, and Plopped a 2.5 x 8 vari x 3 on it. Love this little rifle. Iron  sights are great. spent a few hours polishing the action and customizing the bolt handle so i could use the scope without HIGH rings. love it all and would do it again! Thanks  Fellers!

Rangr,

Do you have instructions and picture.  I have one in 7.62x39 and love it.  My only dislike is the protruding magazine.  Mine has good looking walnut-looking wood.  The local Gander Mtn. has one with an ugly blonde stock.

Mine likes Federal ammo as well as Wolf.  I couldn't believe how well it shot with Wolf FMJ's.  It is also good with cast bullets and Hornady SJ's.  Plenty of power for deer in a small, light package.
