Squid as catfish bait

I was wondering if anyone has tried cut squid for freshwater catfish. I was on the Alabama gulf coast this past week and noticed Wal-mart sells it frozen in their spt.goods department.  From what I understand from saltwater fishermen, you can't get it off the hook once you impale it.  Every saltwater fish seems to like it, just thought freshwater cats might also...

If a catfish will hit some of the stuff folks say they catch them on, I can't imagine why not squid. I was looking for the shrimp everybody talks about and couldn't find it. So I got the cocktail shrimp, put a bunch in a yogert cup and poured crawdad scent all over it. Maybe it will work and maybe not, gonna find out in a couple weeks.

Squid works fine as cat bait.  Even Winn-Dixie has it in multi-# boxes frozen.  Stays on good, too.  I use it all the time on my noodles on the AL River below Montgomery.  Shrimp works good too. Buy the medium or smaller for most uses.

I use squid quite often for Catfish in the lakes here in S.Illinois. Works GOOD and stays on the hooks. I tied into one last fall, had him up to the boat 5 times, last time he circled underneath the boat wrapped the line around the anchor rope and shook the hook, never did see him!!!!...Ed

I use to carry dried squid from Vietnam in my pocket like squid jerky.  Had a smell like 3 day old cut bait on a hot rock.  Nothing was biting on my minnows so I put some on my hook.  Still no luck.  Sure tasted good though once you got past the smell.  Sort of like limburger.......Mike

It works great.  As a matter of fact, I've encouraged a local bait shop to carry it...to no avail.

Spector & Hillbilly Jim-Benn there and done that SEA BBQ Squid thing.  It was staple outside movies in Thailand and night markets.
