I need a good cleaning

   My .243 has several hundred rounds shot through it, so lapping or polishing may be to late. However I would like suggestions for a good glean up job.
   Do I buy the paste, foam, or stick with the butches? jags mops or patches?

It depends on how bad the bore is...You can see what I do...some just use wipe-out and leave it in over night..then just normal patching..Since you pretty much smoothed out the bore..I wouldn't be flitzing it it shouldn't need it....http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,67490.msg412331.html#msg412331

   I have a Remington 700 VS in .308. Some time ago I bought a case of Norinco .308 really cheap. The Norinco gave the Remington a severe case of cooper fouling. I tried Hopes #9 over and over again and it was only removing trace amounts little at a time. I ended up getting some Sweets Bore cleaner and it worked quite a bit faster. I didn't count the number of patches it took but it was a lot faster.
  I feel like I still could lap the barrel though.

You gotta keep it clean if you continue to expect it to shoot well.

 I really like the foams and gells that are avalible now. They stay in contact with the fowling longer, so are able to break it up more completely.

 There are MANY theorys on how to clean a barrel.
 For a general clean. Like I would do after a day at the range, I like to run a brush with gel solvent on it thru the bore and wait. Follow with another patch and solvent and wait a bit more. Follow that with patches until they come out clean. lastly a oil patch. This will vary greatly based on how dirty that barrel is. Copper fowling can be more stouborn.

I run a wet patch of Barnes CR-10 through the bore & let it soak about 5 min. then use a brush with CR-10. Run dry patches through the bore & you'll see all the blue crap come out on the patches. If it really bad, repeat the process until it's clean. If you use a bronze brush, rinse it out good, the CR-10 will eat it because there is copper in it. I give it a coat of oil & then use a mop to get the excess out. You wouldn't run an engine without oil, same goes for a barrel. Everyone seems to have different opinions on this matter. Who's right & who's wrong? This is what I do. I refuse to store a dirty gun.
