Sportster 17m2
« on: June 26, 2007, 04:18:19 AM »
Just ordered a new 17m2 with the heavy barrel.  Anyone have a range report on it?  Do they generally shoot well out of the box or do they take some fiddling with like some of the centerfires?

Thanks,

Just clean the factory gunk out of the barrel and go shoot.Mine like about any flavor ammo.Eley is a good choice and can be found for under $40 a brick.RRarms has them for $3.69(i think).Put a decent scope on it and away you go.Mine will shoot 1/2" or less at 75-100 yds if i do my part and the winds not blowing to hard.Little suckers will drift bad.Slow

Hands down the most accurate rifle I have ever fired!!! I have fired quite a few!!!

I was on the range with a guy shooting a 30 carbine. We got to talking and I was able to shoot that lil 17 THRU every 30 cal hole he put in the paper. This was at 25 & 50 yards!! I cannot remember the group sizes, but if you do a search i think I did a range report on it some time back.

 You will LOVE it!!!

 Here is mine!!

If your hunting tree rats, head shots wont be a problem with the M2.I also guarantee if you don't hit them in the head they'll be field dressed when they hit the ground.Slow

thanks for the info slowhand. a couple of the guys here are shooting mach2's for tree rats. they said about the same thing as you. head shots are not  a problem. the kids said if you can't see the head go for the rib cage. makes a little harder to clean but still doable. a shot anywhere but the head or ribs just about wasted a squrielll.they only lost 2 last year.they are awful nice kids. they had a game cook last fall and invited an old cripple like me! there was plenty of tree rat at that dinner! also deer roast, pheasant, quail, and crappie! it was good eating to.! take care and have fun.

Got it in, looks good.  Mounted a millet 6-18x40 on it.  Can't wait to try it out on some paper.  It may get me back into squirrel huntin!  The best thing is if I want a 17hmr all I have to do is send in an order......

RR has them for $3.99 or did a couple of weeks ago.Just a pain to order from them.I can get them locally from a dealer friend for $45 a brick picked up.Yes that's a 10-22.22lr.Putting together another 10 22 and converting to 17M2.Just need a receiver for it.Gun show coming up the weekend after the fourth. Will try for a cheap gun there and sell off another bunch of stock parts.Missed out on two 10 22's Tuesday in the paper. My paper was late and there was 2 in there for $75 a piece.Slow
