love for the 1841, 6 pounder
« on: June 24, 2007, 01:55:03 PM »
As Seacoastartilery says " its probably the best looking bronze gun ever made, perfect lines, perfect proportions."
I must agree I guess that's why I have (4) ranging from 1/5 th scale, 1/4, 1/3 and full scale. Sadly the 1/3 and full scale are iron tubes but the 1/5 and 1/4 are bronze beauty's
Any way as its almost the 4th of July and I will participate in the annual 4th of July band concert in Saint Louis. I will be playing my instrument during the concert, the full scale, 6 pound er  along with about 11 other guns ranging from 1/2 to full scale.

We are featured for the 1812 overture. and its a night fire blast

see: http://stlouis.missouri.org/chband/summer07.html

The long flame is from my gun at last years concert.  ;D

CC -  That's the best of two worlds - good live music and makin' smoke and fire.

CC,

Mike and I agree with Tim,  you do have the best of both worlds.  Mike has an old VHS tape from Dynamit Noble which features various uses of their commercial explosives.  The film is beautifully choreographed to the 1812 overture.  It is really well done!  Someday we hope to be in the right place on the fourth to be able to watch a performance like yours.  Best wishes for a great performance!

We were driving through Lancaster, NH today and I spotted an iron field piece in the small park on Route 2.  I thought it was a full size version of the bronze 1841, but upon closer inspection we discovered that it was a 6Pdr. Iron field gun, Model 1836, dated 1837, registry No. 4.  These are extremely good looking guns, having lines very similar to the 1841.  The glossy black tube has been well cared for and is a slightly more slender sister to the 6Pdr Bronze 1841, about 80 pounds lighter.  If we ever build a smooth-bore iron field-piece, this will be it!

Regards,
Tracy and Mike
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!
