winchester mod. 70

I am working on getting a rifle and sending it out to be made into a tactical rifle.
I can no longer find the Savage 110 that I had originally planed to use so I went
In Wal-mart today and found a Winchester model 70 for $380
I like the 3-position safety of the Winchester and the bolt was smooth for a factory rifle.
Is the Winchester a good rifle to be reworked?
can I find a good composite thumb hole stock for it?
Can I get an aftermarket trigger that goes down to about 3 lbs?

The Winchester is OK although I would bet the Savage would beat the accuracy just out of the box. Also the Savages or being converted to the new trigger design. This is a very good trigger and while the M70 could be lightened easily enough the Savage would not require a trip to the smith. I would suggest looking around for the stock.  I don't really care for the synthetics but I would bet with the accuracy of the Savage bolts any stock that's available for the Winchester will be available for the Savage. I have seen bad things written about the synthetic stocked Winchester rifles marketed thru WalMart.
PS-check the Brownells website for synthetic stocks. They may not be the cheapest place to buy from but they have quite a large selection and allow you to know what's available.

Savage has a tactical rifle and the new trigger design they have is or will be available on their varmint and tactical rifles. Everyone I've talked to that has bought a Savage Tactical or varmint rifle has been pleased with the accuracy. Dave
