scope for 300wsm

I killed a bushnell 3200 elite on my 300 wsm
now im looking for a replacement.
gonna send this one back to bushnell
and see what happens.
sent 60 rounds down range the other day scope did fine
until the last 4 rounds and then lost focus above 4x
then the power adjustment felt gritty and is now stuck
between 3x and 4x.
didnt have any probs until then with the scope
used factory loads too. took scope off and the bases were loose
like i said didnt have a problem until saturday

Assuming the recoil from a shorty is the same as a real .300, I don't think I would be putting a Bushnell on it.  You might step up to a Burris.  I had a 1.5x5 on a .300Winnie for years with no problems. Of course, a Leuie would get you where you want to go.  Or a Weaver.
The bigger the scope and the higher it sits above the rifle, the more torgue is generated to it under recoil.

"Step up" to a burris?  I must admit, I found that kinda funny.  I own two Burris black diamonds and, while I haven't had any problems (other than it seems that the lenses scratch fairly easy), I have an Elite 3200 mounted on my .375H&H - which has far more recoil than a little .300WSM, and my Elite 3200 has held up perfectly.  I just don't see the burris as a step up from an Elite 3200.

That said, on my particular .300WSM (which is a Kimber Montana), I mounted the new Leupold VX-III in 3.5x-10x-40mm.  I choice this scope because, in part, I wanted really long eye relief.  The new VX-III series is noticeably better (optically speaking) than the older Vari-X IIIs.  Also, after about 30 or 40 shots, the scope performed flawlessly. As such, I recommend the VX-IIIs.

mine was a 3-9x40 and did preform quite well up to a point which was
the other day. all in all i put about 300 rounds thru  my 300
and had no prob.oh well i guess ill look for a leupold or burris.
im gonna see what bushnell is gonna do for now

I personally would not recommend a leupold scope below the VX-II line.

I have had really good luck with the VX II3X9 on my 7mm WSM; if I had to do over again, though, I would have put a Nikon Monarch UCC 3X9 on the rifle.  Both have held together for me after thoroughly being abused by recoil and while in the field.  I would go with the Nikon.

I stand by my assessment of Bushnell however I must confess to having a friend in Oklahoma that has an A-bolt in .300winnie with a Bushnell 3x9 on it.  The scope had slipped under recoil until only the adjustment turrets were holding it from moving further. (I referred to it as "the sewer pipe")   It would still put 3 shots into a snuff box lid at 100 yards shooting off a fence post however.  That little gem of knowledge cost me $50 to see.

Your scope had a weak spot from the get go most likely.  let them repair or replace and you will most likely never have another problem. That scope is perfectly capable of handling the recoil from that round.

They should repair it at no charge.  However I like scopes with a lot of constant eye relief.  So I am a Leupold VXIII and Zeiss Conquest fan.  My last 2.5 x 8 Conquest sits on a Kimber 300WSM in Talley light weights, constant 4 inches of eye relief and very clear, $399.00 from Cameraland NY.
