Highcap Ruger M77 anyone?
« on: May 25, 2007, 04:31:26 PM »
As per this thread I've employed EC-10's wonderful discovery that a M-14 magazine is almost a perfect fit in a short action RUGER M77. The main reason for my doing this is to allow for a longer magazine facilitating using ammo with a longer C.O.L. BUT those 6 extra rounds are kinda nice as well. A couple hours of careful fitting of the mag was all that was required for the swap. The only part of the rifle that was modified was the floorplate hinge assy was shortened slightly. Total cost minus the rifle was $15:D

k'

i couldn't get the linked thread to open up.    however, that is one of the most 'interesting' things i've seen on the web!   i don't own a short-actioned Model 77; but would possibly do the conversion in a heartbeat if i did!

very instructive!

thanks,

That's ingenious of you.  :)

I recently purchased a short-action M77 MIIRS in .243 Win.. Would this conversion work without damaging a wood stock?
If at first you don't succeed, by all means try again. But if this doesn't work, give up, because there is no sense in making a darn fool of yourself.

 No stock modifications were required.

:)I've got a couple of hunting buddies I need to show that to...My M-77 will hold 6 in .243...I have hunted with these guys for over 20 years, we take a week and go to eastern NC and hunt a couple of farms the family owns...These guys cringe when they hear more than one shot from that little .243, cause they know they will be up part of the night skinning deer....One guy swears he's going to do the Barney Fife thing and take all but one bullet from me...Frankly, if I have the opportunity to fill the freezer and have a couple of buddies to help with the cleaning then I'm taking advantage of it!!! :)
