New Ultra Varmint 22 WMR
« on: May 18, 2007, 02:39:25 PM »
Well, I picked up my new H&R Ultra Varmint in 22 WMR Yesterday. I'm pretty impressed with the rifle. Very Happy. I ordered a Bushnell Sportsman to go on top. Here are a few picks...

Welcome and congratulations!

Fine looking rifle.  That's exactly the same package I have.  I don't think you will disappointed.   I went with high Leupold Rifleman rings.  :)

That's a mighty purty rifle you got there...hope it shoots good for ya :) I'm thinking of picking one of these little buggers up myself, as I sold my Savage 93 and now have a bunch of expensive .22WMR ammunition laying around and no gun to shoot it in :'( I priced one from the only local dealer I trust wholeheartedly and I was told they could get me one for $160, but that they were backordered (with no definite date on when they'd be able to get one in) :-[ I don't have enough spare cash to spring for one right now anyways, but hopefully before the summer is out I'll be able to get my mitts on one; I absolutely love the Henry lever guns, but nice as their .22WMR model is, I can't justify spending $350 on one.

Kind Regards,

.450Marlin

If you have a Walmart that still sells firearms, their supplier Sports South, has them in stock. ;)

Thanks for info Quck, I appreciate it :) However, the dealer in question only wants $10 more than Wal Mart & I'd definitely prefer giving him the business vs. WM. If he can't get one though, I may well go that route if I get the money, loathe it though I would ::) >:(

Kind Regards,

Any idea why the prices on their handguns are so expensive?    I was looking at a Ruger KP345DC and was told by my dealer that he could get it at $415 shipped.

Sports South has them listed for over $700!!  :o    Even Rugers MSRP on their website isn't that high!!

The prices listed at SSI are their suggested retail prices, have little to do with real world prices anywhere I would do business!! :-\

But if I bought mail order, the dealer here tack on an extra $50!!!!! just to process.  It's my punishment for buying elsewhere.  What a racket!!

I have called 5 within 50 miles of where I live and they are all within $10 of each other.  Even then at todays gas prices it doesn't pay to drive any further.

Wal Mart USED to be an option, but right after they stopped selling Guns in CA (circa 1999) prices went up.  Before that they were competitive.

Heck some are telling me $230 for the Ultra Varmint 22WMR.

I did a look up with the link you gave me.  I do know SOME of those dealers have not been in business for 2 years, but I'll check on the rest.

Yea it's a real PITA, but, I'll be moving to central CA in a year or two (retirement ;D) and hopefully that will change.
